Pondicherry is one of the most beautifully cities in South India. She is widely known for the Aurobido Ashram and Aurovill. But she really has a lot more to offer.

I would like to begin with our bike ride from Chennai. I went with my fiancée` in our new Unicorn. It was undoubtedly the most romantic journey we had till date. We started from Chennai at around 4:30 in the morning and reached Ponicherry by 7. The ECR road was really fabulous with the sea next to it for most of the way. The resorts along the road was beautiful lined with coconut trees. We also encountered a salt farm. It was the first one that I had come across and was surprised to see how salt is made.

In Pondicherry we opted for the Ashram gust house. Its really a beauty. The charges are Rs 400 for a double bed room. Its the last one in the road beside the beach. It had a wonderful garden, sitting in it one can enjoy watching the sea for hrs. As soon as we reached we headed for the Ashram and from there to Aurovill. The trip to Aurovill was a different kind of an experience. We went through trees and villages. Most of the shops falling on our way sold things made and promoted by the organization. Coming to clothes, the place has a different kind of a fashion. It is a bit influenced by the foreigners settled over there but that doesn't take away the Indigenous and rustic elements from them.

If you are into comfort clothing you are sure to find something interesting over here.

Apart from the Ashram the other part of the town is not much different from any South India city apart from the fact the being a Union Territory things are a bit cheaper over here.

At night we had food at a French joint. Being a bong I simply love fish and am ever willing to try out different cuisine around it. The food was simply awesome. The next day was a shopping day for us and we went all the way to Aurovill to collect a few souvenirs. This time while we were going we missed the direct route to the place and had to take a round about trip. On the way we saw how the French people settled over there were make the roads on their own and also they have set up a place with all the modern amenities where from they could work while they are away.

Now that was something which was really unexpected.............

I would like to conclude that Pondicherry is really a great weekend destination to head for. She provides the much needed breather that we urban people need to keep going!!
