History of Pondicherry is it's ancient name is Vedpuri. In 9th Century it was the centre of Sanskrit education. Many people think that the ashrama of ancient saint Agastya is here which is currently known as Aurobindo Samadhi.
The modern history of Pondicherry starts from the year 1693 when Holland captured it. Pondicherry got freedom in 1st November 1954.
Pondicherry was under the rule of France at about 250 years. The effect of the French culture it's building is very much alive in this city. Proper city is very neat & clean.
The Bay of Bengal is very interesting in this part of the world.
Most visiting places in Pondicherry are Aurobindo ashram, Aurobindo Samadhi, Aurovill, Botanical Garden, Vinayagarh Temple, beach etc.
Best time to go Pondicherry is October to March. Accommodations are very cheaper when comparing to other tourist places. Its very safety in this place.
