A 'PLAN' gone awry!!!!

With stars in their eyes, four strangers, who meet in a train, reach Mumbai. Each of them has a dream, which they think they will be able to fulfill in the land of opportunity. Dino Morea wants to become the next big thing in bollywood, Sanjay Suri, a die-hard gambler thinks he will hit the jackpot and become really rich, Bikram Saluja has come to find his lost love and Ronit Roy has to settle scores with the guy who has conned his father to the tune of a lakh of rupees. Little do they know that Mumbai has something else in store for them.

The foursome finds a place to stay, but then that is not enough to survive in Mumbai. One fine day when they find themselves running short of cash, they force Suri to play one last big game, without realizing that this could cost them their lives, Suri loses and the foursome get seven days to return seven lakhs.

So how do they go about it? Simple! Abduct a businessman, collect the ransom and pay back the money. Their plan goes haywire when they find that the rich tycoon whom they have abducted is Mumbai’s most dreaded criminal Mussa Bhai (Sanjay Dutt). This is also the time when mussa realizes that it is his own men who have betrayed him at the behest of Sultan (Mahesh Manjrekar) his staunch rival. Dutt joins hands with the foursome to wipe out his enemy, however the large-hearted Don sends the boys back before they get steeped in the world of crime and grime.

Hriday Shetty, the debutant director picked up a good subject and presented it to the audience with all the trimmings some great action, witty dialogues and some great visuals. Yet the finished product lacks one vital ingredient – it fails to captivate.

The basic flaw in PLAN directed by Hriday Shetty is the story. While the first half is light and breezy, post interval the story lacks the zing and falls flat. The romance between Dutt and Priyanka Chopra has no passion, the fling, which Dino Morea has with Sameera Reddy, lacks conviction and the one-night stand between Saluja and Rohtagi with Saluja falling flat for him lacks credibility. The romantic angles seem forced marring the flaw of the story. The songs also add to this, for post interval there are far too many songs. In fact the guys, instead of breaking their heads on how to get even with Manjrekar, break out in songs at the drop of a hat. The rivalry between the two underworld dons has not been clearly etched. One minute they shake hands at the behest of another biggie whom both respect, and the next minute Manjrekar gets busy planning Dutt’s elimination.

However everything is not negative. The movie does have its fine points – the highlight being the fantastic rapport that the four guys share on the screen. Barring Saluja, who is still a little stiff, Suri, Dino and Ronit Roy are really impressive. While Dino is endearing, Suri and Ronit are natural. Watch Suri playing cards – not only are the scenes well executed, Suri scores in each scene. With each movie he is getting better and better, ditto Morea.

The girls are mere glamour props. Each has a song to her credit – they go to show off their sleek bodies, the frontbenchers get titillated all right. And the purpose of the director is served.

It is Sanjay Dutt who scores yet again with his performance. With Munnabhai MBBS still running to packed houses in theatres and where he portrays a similar character, comparisons will be natural. But Munnabhai is in a different league all together. However, without a shade of doubt, Dutt can play a Bhai all right – be it a comic one or one with a mean streak. He is Mumbai’s Bhai for all seasons!

Don’t fret even if you happen to miss this one.
