I recently contracted the services of Piyush packers and movers for a local movement from Gurgaon to Sagar ( M.P.). The quote was most competitive and the sales executive Mr. Vikas sounded very professional and knowledgible.
The number of people that came for packing were as many as promised and were well skilled and generally well behaved. However, they did not pack the kitchen items well and my wife was very annoyed about it.
They also tried to save on packing material while being aware that it was Rainy season ( 28th August) and rain could spoil the goods. As it turned out, it rained on that day and many of our suitcases which were being loaded without being wrapped got wet.
However , my biggest issue with them came out when the goods were packed and the truck departed. The collection people who came down were completely different from the the sales people.
They then forced me to enter a value ( Rs. 500 atleast) against every item in the loading list. When I asked why, they insisted on entering a non-zero value everywhere & told it was the rule of the insurance company. I agreed and gave them a declared value of Rs 1 lakh. After that, the started adding random items before final billing - toll tax, octroi, excess goods, border charge.
Then I lost my cool and a heated argument broke out wherein I insisted that I will not pay any money over and above the quote and that no additional costs were mentioned in the quotation. My parents, wife and child had to catch a train in 3 hours and here we were arguing over stupid cost escalations. The person then started asking to pay for the transit insurance of the car, which was already covered under comprehensive insurance. After nearly 45 minutes, we got the invoice to be brought down to a mutually agreeably level , but still atleast 2500 more than our quote.
We eventually realized that the packers did not do any insurance, and he was just using insurance as an excuse to extract more money from us. Despite our repeated phone calls, the company could not provide us a proof that they actually insured the goods. The goods reached on time, however the goods were shipped in a non-covered container whereas a covered container was promised. The goods thankfully reached in an acceptable state, but we didn't pay them the insurance amount.
Advise: you may contract them, but be very clear on "additional costs" and insurance. They cheat in this respect, give a lower quote first up to win business and then escalate at the time of shipment.
