Animal Instincts. Review on Pithamagan - Tamil Movie

Pithamagan -the movie with great expectations right from the date it was annouced, its expectation has increased since both the protagonist(Vikram & Surya) have given big hits recently. So the obvious is an orphan who is brought up in the graveyard. He is aquestion is whether it has met the expectations?...to answer this, first another question to be asked is whether the film is to be watched critically or for entertainment sake?(ans at the last:D) Coming to the story....dont wont worry I wont let out any spoiler. Its a film about 2 friends Chithan(Vikram) and Sakthive(Surya). Chithan is a emotionless 'creature' brought up in a graveyard.While Sakthi is fun filled character who earns his living cheating others. Chitan works for the villan who by circumstances goes to prison. There he meets Sakthi who shows affection for him. Then how their life goes after they get released is what the movie is about. there two females Gomathy(Sangeetha) who is well-wisher for Chitan and Manju(Laila) who is the love interest of Sakthi.

The story may sound very simple in fact many were unable to find what is the story about for most part of the film. The reason being the movie starts with all the characters going in different directions even when they come together there seem to be no difference. This can be considered one of the drawback of the film. The starting encounters of Sakthi and manju are lengthy and becomes tedious. Though Laila has done a funny role her dialouge delivery looks very artificial. Then cinematography(Balasubramaniam) and editing(Suresh) are just above average. The location mostly around theni looked pleasing. Music(Ilayaraja) plays a important part since it has to carry the elevate the emotion in most of the scenes.The medley of old songs is picturised very well with simran who makes a guest apperance.The stunts looked realistic at times gruesome though essential. Main strength of the film is Vikram and Surya who have come up with one of the best performance ever seen in Indian cinema. Surya has very much improved his acting skills in his last 2 film. Vikram has done a role which can be said that none has ever tried it any Tamil film, he can be best compared with any animal hardly he has uttered 3-4 words in the film.

The film is at its best for the last half hour and the climax portion with vikram's solo revenge act cannot just be described by words. Bala(director) can be proud that he has given one of the best climax ever seen in Indian films. So if the film is watched critically it has its pit falls but entertainment wise it achieves almost 80% of the mark. The movie would have been a exceptional one if the entire film had been viewed through the eyes of Chithan.But the director towards the end say that its all about the animal instincts of the character Chithan. There are still more excellent aspects that can be dicussed about the characters but that would become spoilers. So its a must see film for those who love emotional ones....after the movie ended I saw most of the audience wiping their tears!
