PITAAH tells the story of Rudra (Sanjay Dutt), whose family comprises of his wife Paro (Nandita Das), twin sons Luv and Kush (Sagar and Samrat Thawani) and a 9-year-old daughter Durga (Tanvi Hegde). They live in a small basti in a village named Shikarpur. He does whatever a good Pitaah should do to lead a contented life with the family and protect them. The story takes a turn when the thakurs sons Bachchu and Bhola go to a nearby village to spend the night with a mujra dancer (Mink). The next morning, while they are returning to their haveli in Shikarpur, an incident changes their fate. This one incident also changes Rudra's life and a docile father transforms into a revenge seeker. On one of the days of the court hearings he kills the culprits responsible for his daughters rape. Thereby becoming a fugitive himself. He does whatever a good Pitaah should do to lead a contented life with the family and protect them. He tries to commit suicide with the family but it doesn't work. The story ends with the Thakur's death.

The local inspector is Ram Narain (Jackie Shroff). Jackie Shroff is shown as a corrupt police inspector who dines with the victims, enjoys mujra and even allows Rudra to escape after he kills the rapists. He is initially shown as the bad guy in support of Thakur but undergoes a change of heart after the Thakur's sons are killed by Rudra.

On the whole, PITAAH has its moments of glory, but they are not enough to leave much of an impression.

Nandita Das dishes out a good performance. Mita Vasisth looks too young for a mom of two kids. The music by Anand Raj Anand is average.Rural hospitals shown are absolutely clean and hygienic, it never happens in India.Overall, if you went to watch Kurukshetra and enjoyed it then Pitaah shouldn’t give you a headache. But seriously I did not like this movie.
