Missing the original potc soul..in it..I liked all the three previous potc movies. I am die hard fan of captain Jack sparrow. I like all the characters from the three potc movies.
Here is a comparison between the previous 3 potc movies and the 4th movie. I like to quote elements missing from the potc4 movie here:
i. Action sequences:
There is no charm in the action sequences. Neither a worth watching sword fight nor a sea battle. Instead, the action sequences are filmed under darkness which are least interesting.
ii. Characterization:
Missing interesting crew characters..Missing pintel, raggeti, cotton, the short fellow no alternate replacement for the place left blank by tia dalma. Thereby, the delightful environment on the deck is missing.
Where are interesting crew gatherings on board..and crew discussions. There is no replacement for the negative/opposite characters such as James norrington, Lord Becket and Davy Jones who used to hold the fort at one end by themselves.
Right from Ana Maria to Pintel and Ragetti, there was strong characterization in the previous potc movies. Where are characters like those on ship?
iii. Missing Will and Elizabeth.. no substantial replacement..
Philip's and sirena's characters lack intensity and fail to match Will and Elizabeth and hence another pole is missing thereby the movie becoming unipolar weighing the burdon solely upon shoulders of Captain Jack sparrow.
iv. Complexity of script.. which was the ultimate characteristics of
all the first 3 movies. Mind is busy when you watch those movies all the way thinking on who is on which side.. and whose interests are clashing with whose. Characters shifting sides with the shift in their interests.
For example, Jack is seen sometimes supporting will and Elizabeth against Barbossa and sometimes he is engaged in a sword fight with Will and Norrington depending on the situation.
On the other hand, you can watch POTC4 while keeping your brains in the refrigerator.
v. Pirates Culture
No Tortuga, No Port Royale, No Shipreckov..No Pirates' gathering..
vi. No Dealings..Parleys..
No meetings on islands.. no interesting deals..thereby no usage of Jack's cunny mind and methods..
(Still liked POTC4 just because of captain Jack Sparrow.)
Conclusion: Missing u Mr. Gore Verbenski
Mr. Marshall has to be sent back home.. and
Mr. Verbenski should be recalled to direct the next film in the series.
