After the highly successful The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man’s Chest, here comes the third part of Pirates of the Caribbean-At World’s End! Though this third part is full of adventure, action and fantasy, it disappoints a bit. 2 reasons for that. One, the movie is quite lengthy, it is approximately 170 mins and Two, there were a lot of expectation from this movie as At World’s End being the final part and unfortunately, it doesn’t meet all the expectations.

The story of the movie: Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and Captain Barbossa (Geoferry Rush) rescue Jack Sparrow from the Locker, along with the Black Pearl. On the other hand, Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) gains control of Davy Jones’ heart and forms a dark alliance with Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) in order to wipe out the pirates from the face of the earth. Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Barbossa, Tia Delma (Naomie Harris) then calls the Pirate Lords from the four corners of the earth for a gathering. In this gathering, it is decided to release Calypso, lover of Davy Jones, in hopes that she will help them fight against Davy Jones, the Flying Dutchman, Lord Beckett and the entire East India Company. Will they succeed?

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End could have been a great, exciting movie if it was not long. There are several scenes in the first half, which could have been edited or should have been shortened.

However, there are several pros too! The second half is quite interesting and the entire climax was funny and in true Pirates style! There are several sequences in this half, which are worth mentioning. The conversation of Will, Lord Beckett and Davy; the meeting of the Pirate lords, conversation of Davy and Tia Delma are the scenes which are highly interesting.

Johnny Depp, again, gives a memorable performance. He has already gone into the skin of the character of Jack Sparrow and it was pretty easy for him to perform this character this time as he has already done it before twice. He was funny, he was entertaining and he was outstanding! Great work, Johnny!

Orlando Bloom looked supercool this time and he too did a nice job. He got better in the climax. Keira Knightley was excellent and she gives a brilliant performance. Her performance was better than the performance given by her in The Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man’s Chest.

Geoffrey Bush was superb and his style, his body language suited his character to the T. Jack Davenport as Norrington also does a nice job. Kevin McNally as Gibbs was funny. Stellan Skarsgard as Bill Tunrer looked haunting and does a great job. Chow Yun-Fat as Captain Sao Feng was great. Tia Delma performed as her character demanded. Takayo Fischer as Mistress Ching did overacting. Tom Hollander was as usual good. Others did a fine job.

Story was nice and flawless but it could have been better. Hans Zimmer’s music was fantastic and quite different. Dariuz Wolski’s cinematography was breath taking. The lensman does the same great job, which he did in Dead Man’s Chest. Art Direction was great. Dialogues, was nonsensical at times, but though they were quite funny and hilarious. The effects were spellbound. Action and stunts were enjoyable.

Screenplay was faulty. Gore Verbinski’s direction was good and perfect. Gore directed the movie flawlessly.

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

  1. The first scene of the movie

  2. The scene where Elizabeth and Barbossa meet Captain Sao Feng

  3. Jack Sparrow’s entry

  4. The ‘Up is Down’ sequence!

  5. Conversation of Davy Jones and Tia Delma

  6. Conversation of Will, Lord Beckett and Davy on Beckett’s ship

  7. The meeting of Pirate Lords (quite funny!)

  8. The last 35 minutes of the movie

On the whole, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is a nice entertaining movie but not as nice as Dead Man’s Chest and The Curse of the Black Pearl. It is quite long and could have been better and shorter. But though, it should be watched because of its execution, cinematography, and climax and not to forget, Jack Sparrow! And if you are a Pirates fan, don’t even think of missing it!
