In continuation to my car review, I thought might as well share a few thoughts on my car stereo as well.

For one, I was keenly on the lookout for THE_BEST audio experience when it came to my car stereo. I didn't mind paying up a few extra bucks, as long as I had the unit which got my kicking and rocking !

Well, if not so much of the BEST but Pioneer DEH 5750 is surely up there in among the echelons of the desirables !

For one, I’d ruled out Blaupkunt for the simple reason that I knew it came at a premium. For starters, no one would have a Bose unit in their homes, rite !? I guess it was on similar lines of reasoning that I was keep to pursue the poor man’s market rather that the ostentatious’ !

So, where does one begin from….? The Gray market, of course ! I paid a visit to JC Road in Bangalore to check out all the available brands and units.

My finding, Pioneer really sells here like hot cakes…for the fact that Pioneer still doesn’t have an authorized outlet in India, every other unit here had to be a pioneer…with units lined up in racks like a Camelin Geometry box or something !

I had to decide between a Sony and a pioneer. I got the general feedback about sony that the recent bunch of units were susceptible to Lens disorders owing to cheap mp3s and CDs being played. Not good….not good at all ! after all, there’s no concept of ‘good’ mp3s…the comment about Sony kinda’ put me off a little.

So, I’d made up my mind more or less to buy a Pioneer. Frankly speaking, I don’t think it really matters which one you buy, but it’s important not to wake up everyday and lamenting, “damn, I could have had better..!!”

I was told pioneer 5750, priced 7.9K is a good value for money with amazing features and the standard 52Watts *4 Channel output..yada..yada…yada…

Next, I had to decide on speakers, my options here were, Sony, Pioneer, JBL. Another American brand SoundStream also seems to be the rage in the market these days, with the power rating actually in RMS and not in PMPO (120W RMS) I was pretty clear that I’d go for all 4 speakers of the same brand and not do the shuffling act.

I decided to go for JBL (purely driven by brand image). Front 4” speakers 105W PMPO and rear 6”*9” Oval Speakers 300W PMPO and trust me, they rock ! the clarity level is amazing and u don’t even feel the need to unnecessarily go for Amps/Woofer etc. Personally I believe a car is not the right place to get a sub-woofer and stuff. I mean, for low range frequency sounds u need a space in excess of 30meters to resolve the wavelength. What purpose would they serve except for increasing the vibration in the car !? better to invest in something more practical like a basic entry level Philips home theater system or something !

Coming to the pricing of these, I managed to bargain the speakers for 2+4=6K with warranty from the Hyundai dealer itself. Had to really run from pillar to post over there to get a decent pricing…one word of advice. Don’t ever close the deal just because u’r short on time or something. Stick around and keep butting your head. They r bound to give in !

Overall, pioneer looks like a good buy. Believe me, to learn how to master all the control is just a magnanimous task ! you have to really sit with the manual and cram each and every word to see how everything works. Not an easy task, considering the fact that the driver as it is has other things to worry about ! 

You don’t even need a digital clock in your car as the unit comes with a clock display as well.

My take on this would be: Blindly go for this, It’s a good value for money !

Play it on !
