PINK is a highly thought provoking, hard-hitting movie that has been receiving rave reviews lately. I saw it in its 2nd week and it was still running to a packed house, a rarity these days.  The movie is excellent and instead of writing a standard review I would just like to present a few of my feelings about this path-breaking movie.

1) The 3 central female characters led by played by new and unknown stars come up with scintillating and effortless performances which speaks lot about the Director – Annirudh Roy Choudhury.  Kriti Kulhari’s role as Falak Ali is more out-standing than that of Minal Arora, the main assailant played by Tapsee Pannu.

2) The accused males led by Angad Bedi also come up with very natural portrayals of rich and spoilt brats out for some fun, frolic and females.

3) This movie could not have been set in any metro city other than New Delhi, such is its reputation.

4) Amitabh as usual comes up with another land mark performance but is he the only veteran actor that our film makers think of for such roles? Why can’t some smart producer think of casting others like Shatrughan Sinha or Vinod Khanna or a Dharmendra? That would provide them with some useful work instead of spending their twilight years drinking and fretting over the careers of their sons and daughters. Amitabh is so busy that he does not have the time to worry of his son’s or daughter-in-law’s failed careers.

5) The actor who played the role of Amitabh’s opposing lawyer came up with a truly praise worthy performance, especially as a new actor directly crossing swords with the greatest star of Indian cinema.

6) The role of Amitabh’s sick wife played by Mamata Shankar was totally unnecessary.  I failed to find any significance of this angle.

7) The aged house owner should have been called to the court room once. He had a lot of evidence against the accused but due to some reason he was forgotten.

8) All the actors, even the ones with bit roles come up with stellar performances getting into the skin of their characters

9) The scene in which the lady constable of the court shakes hands with Amitabh after he wins the case, is perhaps the best of the film

Finally, all the best to Shoojit Sarkar and team for another winning film. The film deserves to be competing for the Oscars.
