PINK – No, means NO!

The movie PINK is produced by Rashmi Sharma and Shoojit Sarkar, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and main lead roles played by Tapasee Pannu(‘Baby’ fame), Kirti Kulhari, Amitabha Bachchan(needs no introduction), Angad Bedi(son of famous cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi and was last seen in “24 season-2” on TV), Piyush Mishra, etc.

Action starts from the word go when the bleeding Angad Bedi, who is relative of a powerful politician, is being taken to the hospital after being hit by Taapasee Pannu and her roommates Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang. Angad Bedi and his friends try to take revenge from these frightened girls by different methods – telling the landlord to ask these girls to vacate the house, kidnaps and molests Taapasee Pannu, takes away the job of Kirti Kulhari, asking the Police to register FIR against the girls on back date, gets Taapasee Pannu arrested on a Friday so that they cannot get bail, etc. A retired lawyer, Amitabh Bachchan, who lives across these girls’ house and who had an ailing wife, comes to their rescue to defend their case. Once the film script enters the court room, then the court scenes continue till the end. Amitabh Bachchan wins the case for them against the powerful lawyer Piyush Mishra.

The story line of the film is quite powerful but the direction is not. There are many a “miss” in the film. No mention was made by Amitabh in the court about the fact that the girls had filed a zero FIR before the boys did so, no mention was made that Taapasee was abducted and molested by friends of Angad Bedi’s, etc. The arguments of Amitabh Bachchan seemed weak against Piyush Mishra’s. Still the judge decides the case in favour of Amitabha Bachchan. Many a scenes were perhaps unnecessary and were only to lengthen the movie.

Taapsee Pannu did justice to her role(I would still rate Taapasee Pannu’s role in BABY as more powerful and the director could not extract the same in this movie from her) and so did Kirti Kulhari. Taapasee's smile was seen only once in the movie when the three girls laugh to leave their tension is perhaps the best scene of the film. I do not remember having seen Amitabh Bachchan as a lawyer, but his performance is far from satisfactory(sorry Amit Sir), I had expected a lot from Amitabh Bachchan. But no fault of the actors, the responsibility fully lies with the Director who could not extract the best from these powerful actors. Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Angad Bedi and Piyush Mishra were impressive.

Overall, the film was good and is a good lesson for girls.
