THE FILM:
Lucky Star Ent.`s ''Pinjar'',directed by Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi (a 20th Century Fox release as the trailors said) is based on the novel ''The skeleton'', by Amrita Pritam.The film is a multistarrer one,which stars Urmila Matondkar,Isha Koppikar,Manoj Bajpai,Sandali Sinha,Priyanshu Chatterjee,Sanjay Suri,Lilltette Dubey,Kulbhushan Kharbanda,Seema Biswas,Farida Jalal and Alok Nath!This is one of the most awaited films of the year because it has Urmila Matondkar in a historical role,which she has never played ever before in her life,and also when there is such a great star cast,the film has to be the most awaited one.Finally,the film,we`ve been looking out for has released!
THE SKELETONS (CHARACTERS) AND THEIR MOVEMENTS (PERFORMANCES):
1.Puro(Urmila Matondkar):Puro,is a Hindu girl,living happily with her family,who is now getting married to Ramchand.Her life changes into a nightmare,when one night a tragic incident takes place,due to which she is left alone and her family members do not accept her.Urmila Matondkar has the main role in the film,and after impressing us in ''Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya,and in her recent release ''Bhoot'' she comes back again with another performance,which cannot be described in words.In the first half,how she plays the lively girl Puro,and then in the second half,how she plays a lonely girl who changed her name as Hamida,is just par excellence.Her facial expressions make her look so natural,that one will not at all feel as if Puro is an imaginary character.Urmila Matondkar deserves an award!
2.Ramchand(Sanjay Suri):Ramchand,is getting married to Puro,but life takes another turn.He has to marry the younger sister of Puro,the offer which he rejects.He is a poet at heart,and loves Puro and his sister very much.Sanjay Suri also proves himself by giving a wonderful performance as Ramchand.He looks very sober and decent,which adds more to the character`s personality.
3.Trilok(Priyanshu Chatterjee):Trilok is Puro`s brother,who gets married to Ramchand`s sister,Lajo.His life takes a miserable turn when lajo is kidnapped.Priyanshu Chatterjee,will leave the viewers shocked by giving such a strong and powerful performance.As Trilok,he acts very well,and has improved alot as an actor.Another performance to look out for,in the movie!
4.Rashid(Manoj Bajpai):Rashid,is a Muslim,who commits a crime for which he cannot be forgiven.He destroys the life of a young and innocent girl.Manoj Bajpai has always been a great actor,and in this film too,he is at his best.He acts through his eyes,like Ajay Devgan does.His face expressions and the way he behaves after committing such a terrible crime,is praiseworthy.
5.Lajjo(Sandali Sinha):Lajjo,is the wife of Trilok and the sister of Ramchand,whose life gets miserable after being kidnapped by Muslims,Can she escape?Sandali Sinha proves that she has improved alot after ''Tum Bin'' and the C-grade film ''Om''.As Lajjo,she is just perfect!
Lillette Dubey as Puro`s mother impresses and Kulbhushan Kharbanda is his usual self.Seema Biswas as Pagli is not so impressive,because her role wasn`t so important.Ishaa Koppikar as Rajjo,Puro`s younger sister,is great.She is fully covered in this fil after wearing vulgar clothes in ''Khallas'',''Patli Kamar-the pop video'' and in the film ''Qayamat''.
THE PARTITION (STORY):
This film is set in the 1940s,the time when Pakistan and India were seperated,and when riots broke out.The story revolves around,a young happy-go-lucky Hindu girl,Puro,living in Amritsar,who is getting married to Ramchand.There are lots of dances and celebrations but one night,she is kidnapped by a Muslim man,Rashid,who rapes her.Puro`s parents then want Ramchand to marry Rajjo,the sister of Puro but Ramchand doesn`t accept this offer,so Rajjo is married to Ramchand`s cousin,where as Trilok,Puro`s brother gets married to Ramchand`s sister Lajjo.When Puro manages to escape from the clutches of Rashid,her family does not accept her.At that time,Rashid marries Puro,and she changes herself into Hamida.Rashid is slowly slowly falling in love with Puro.When Trilok,gets to know about Puro,that she was kidnapped by Rashid,he burns his farm.The worst situations break out,that is the partition is announced.A partition for a separate Muslim country,Pakistan.While shifting to Hindustan,Lajjo gets kidnapped by Muslims.Ramchand asks Puro,to get Lajjo escaped from the Muslims.Will Puro be able to get Lajjo out of the Muslims imprison?What will happen about the problems facing the Indo_Pak sub-continent?
HOW MUCH PINJAR IS CLOSE TO REALITY?:
What I`ve heard is that the Muslims and Hindus could not be united and could not work together,as they used to find differences between themselves.That was when,Mohammad Ali Jinnah,got the idea of a separate Muslim country and a separate country for Hindus.At that time,the boundaries between India and Pakistan were drawn.I don`t know what was the REAL THING,as I didn`t exist at those times,but the way it has been shown how many problems women had to face at that time,is so true,because I`ve heard lots of women`s problems at those times.Like,women used to be killed in trains,or were raped by men.This makes ''Pinjar'',a very true and realistic film.
THE WORK OF THE BOUNDARY MAKERS (CREW):
Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi,gives an excellent direction.The way,Puro`s character has been sketched or the way it has been shown how Lajjo faces difficulty,is amazing.There are some really excellent scenes to look out for.Many people will find the climax disappointing,but I think it was the perfect climax this film could have.For such a film,dialogues have to be well-written,so Dr.Chandraprakash gives the most suitable dialogues for the movie,which are heart-warming and well penned.Screenplay is a plus point of the movie,which is tight.
