Ah! Those were the days! if you needed good Punjabi food, good ambience, without paying a lot for it, you just headed to Pind Baluchi. Nicely attired serving staff, food a little low on hygiene, but otherwise quite good, great portions (Punjabi portions) and full of the grease that gets served as Punjabi food. You just did not have to pay the bomb that you paid for the same food at Park Baluchi, one storey above.


Today, the place is a hollowed out shell of its former self. The hygience levels have dipped as low as the lighting levels in the evening, and I have a strong feeling that the 2 events are related.


The serving staff is at best, uncaring. You might be the prince of Arabia. Now that might get you some attention. Nothing else will.Normally, you have to holler to get water and the menu, then holler to let someone take ur order, then take a crash course in patience and the twiddling of thumbs before you holler again, only to be ignored. After a few times of being ingnored, you ARE blessed with a rather rude intimation that your food is on the way.


Oh, and the waiting lines! The waiting lines!! Someone inside the restaurant has no idea of table queue management. Normally, the turnaround time of a restaurant table should not be more than 1 hour, at most 1.5 hours. The place is divided into so many smaller spaces that each section must have its own queue management, but it appears that each section thinks there is a centralised queue managment. In effect, there is none. No one at the main gate can tell you how long it will take you to get in. All their estimates are always off the mark. One time, and I am not joking, we placed our name in the queue, drove on to another restaurant, then drove back again after the meal, just for fun. You got it, we were still "in the queue". We never went back again.


The queues are not an indication of the popularity of the restaurant. They are an indication of really bad table turaround management. Dirty tables take forever to be cleaned, so be prepared for some standing time before you sit down. And do be ready to holler for the table to be cleaned.
