Shoojit Sircar’s Piku caught my attention for the story idea – father-daughter relationship.But, it was a damper.
It just fell flat. An ambitious, over-confident working woman, is completely exhausted of work-life balance. Taking care of her constipated father requires a hell lot of mental and physical energy.
Right from the first scene, you can hear Piku(Deepika Padukone) yelling on top of her lungs and getting annoyed at a snap. She flies off the handle perpetually for 2 hrs and 30 mins!
The only USP of the movie is Amitabh Bachan, for whom ‘motion’ is an impediment to lead a normal life after a certain age.
He is the soul of the film, who is shown with child-like enthusiasm for life, and simple pleasures – cycling in the streets of Kolkata, having kachoris and jalebis early morning!
Like any other daughter, Piku has the responsibility of looking after her father who loves nagging and being totally in control.Piku has nothing forward to look for in life apart from a busy office schedule, and looking after her father.
Irrfan Khan is impeccable as always. The unsaid love chemistry between Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone Is light and makes you wonder what’s going to happen next.
The movie is dragged a tad too long. It leaves you with a few grins, and giggles.
It left me disappointed. I wanted to see a great story between a father-daughter, something beautiful and inspirational. All it showed was an extended video of Deepika’s #MyChoice video. Gone viral for the wrong reasons.
I couldn’t fathom why on earth she was so dejected in life!There are millions of children looking after their aged parents and are doing much more than what Piku did.(Day and night!)In short, a movie that’s a waste of time.
