Pi is the story of a mathematician that is trying to find a code in the stock market. During his research, he comes across a number a little larger than 200 digits, and before he knows it, all kinds of people are trying to get the number from him. This movie comments on existence as well as the section of the Old Testament that describes how God created life through his voice. Although it doesn't seem to be that interesting in the beginning, it quickly picks up and becomes very intense. The way the movie breaks down is, the Jewish want the number because they believe that it corresponds to the true name of god, the marketers want it because they believe that they can predict large gains in the stock market, and his friend wants it because he came across it in his own research but disregarded it. This all leads to one of the most intense scenes (at least psychologically) that I have ever seen. This movie is open to interpretation, and you can really side with whoever you want; there are good reasons for believing any of them. The movie gets a five star because I feel like I am missing out on something by not owning it on DVD. I feel like I need to watch it about once a month to remember why I love it so much, and I am never disappointed. The cinematography is excellent and you get a good feeling of the way he feels throughout his day, and you also feel trapped when he is, and crammed when the camera is in his small studio apartment. The imagery and the visualization push this movie to the next level, and it is because of these things that the movie haunts and questions the viewer for months to come
