True. Everything plays on it.
If you ask me. You have not choice. Nothing compares to it as of now.
What you need to know when you buy a dvd player.
Timer and Track Display - Without a track Display you will have to keep the TV turned on when you want to listen to music. Because the menu will appear on the TV Screen. This player has a Track /Timer Display.
Menu On/Off You can turn on and off menu. This allows you to listen to of view a dvd without having to use a selection menu. Insert the CD/DVD and it will just start playing. DVP-642 has it.
Read Sub Directories - If you have a CD in which mp3's are stored in folders, some players dont read the files inside the folders. DVP-642 does and it can play the entire collection without even needing to browse into directories on the TV screen.
Plays all formats (Now even Divx) - Divx movies (avi and mpg files downloaded from the internet) can also be played.
Panel buttons - Few players in the market are totally operatable by remote. But what if the remote stopped working. Some times they dont even have the eject button on the player. Philips has a few basic buttons if not all (Play,Stop,Open,Power) atleast.
Region Free Region freeable. You can ask the dealer to make it region free for you so that you can play dvd's from other countries.
Outputs Philips provides Component outputs, Svideo, 5.1 Audio / Sterio outpul and also coaxle and optical output.
Priced around Rs.1000/- more than other DVD Players which is no comparison to the kind of features it has.
Not to forget. The Setup menu has alot of advanced features.
AND not to forget that the software is upgradable. Tomorrow if a new format comes out. They might just provide the software to support that format.
Its very sleek and plays about anything and even scratched discs.
What elseee would one need.
