I bought a Philips 42 inch LCD TV PFL7432 in Jan 2008. I am writing this review after understanding the quality and feed back from other friends.


I bought this HD TV when it was available for Rs.90000 while other brands were about Rs.1 Lakh.


[1] TV picture comes up almost 10 to 15 seconds from stand by, when you switch the power on.


[2] It has very poor Power supply PCBs. Sep2009 (18 months after purchase) the Picture went blank. The service guys at Hyderabad, said they will get the PCBs from Delhi. They took 10 days. They charged me Rs.3300 for PCBs + tax and Rs. 3600 service charges for just plugging in the PCBs Approximately. Rs.7000


[3] The PCBs failed after 1 year once again and the same story repeated. But this time they asked me to bring the 42inch TV to their service station. Finally the servce engr helped me by wrapping the TV in a bed sheet and taking it to their service stattion by an Auto Rickshaw.


[4] Sound is very poor both in quantity and quality. Often in a channel like CNBC You reach 70 percent vol to get reasonable sound.


Lack of spares, Lack of service at customer home for bulky machines, Lack of process planning for transporting an expensive item, charging exhorbitantly for basic work.


Every time I asked for AMC, they never respond.


Think before you buy a Philips high end TV. I have decided not buy any Philips product in future.


16Apr2011 : My philips TV failed the third time within 3 months after the previous service. Once again it was down for 15 days. Service station United electronics from Secunderabad. Also this time I tried the retailer TMC who sold this TV to me, whether they can provide AMC. They provide for all brands , but refused to provide for Philips as philips doesn't provide spares to any one else.  They said they are facing problems in servicing the signed AMCs. Both Philips company and all their service franchisees said they will not sell AMCs on Philips LCD TVs.


Also you may observe that Philips now talks about 2+2 year warranty but witha fine print. Read and you will get terrorised.


10 Jun 2011 : My Philips TV failed for the fourth time with in 3 months after the previous service.  Philips LCD, LED  TVs are now being handled by PE Electronics. I talked to the manager of the Hyderabad office, he responded positively. He took notes of the full case history. He sent a service technician after 18 days, who just couldn't figure out any reason for frequent failures.  But the manager ( PE Electronics)  got this serviced at no cost to me. 20 days after failure, they provided a stand by TV (32") and finally 50 days after the failure, I received the serviced TV. They charged me Rs.800 for transportation.


The response of the service Manager was positive, but still I can not trust the brand, because of the poor quality, delay involved and lack of AMC. AMC will let a customer have a happy ownership.
