I bought this color tv last year on 2nd December,2005. I did not have a good perception of philips products initially, but because my elder brother bought a philips tv (with dome-shaped screen), I was somewhat assured by its picture and sound (not very good, but ok)quality.

I opted for a fully flat TV. If you compare the picture sharpness of philips flat tv with its own conventional tv (with dome-shaped screen), you will find that Philips is not good at flat tvs, but SONY is. And what more? Two days before, (mind you, not even an year old!), it all at once got 'STUCK' like a computer! It displayed 'Changing to..' Like a computer, I had to turn it off and 'restarted' to make it come out of its stuck mode. Then the drama started-- First of all, sound disappeared. Second, it showed me message 'MONO'. Third, EYE-FI option (setting picture quality -brightness,color,contrast,etc automatically, a technology by philips) disappeared from its menu. Fourth, on auto-tuning, the system again got stuck! Fifth, it displayed Menu options for sound settings 'Theatre', 'Movie', 'Voice','Personal', which were not supposed to be present in my model, but the next higher model! Sixth, I could not change the channels.

Only the channel number changed, not the channel! Seventh, 'Zappa', a programmable memory for storing one's beloved channels in specific buttons, stopped working (before 4th error, sorry) And WORST of all---you won't find this model on philips website if you want to email your problem to the customer support.

This model is still available. Now, philips has offered an exchange for it at Rs 6990 only (the actual price that I paid was Rs 8990). I still repent why I not bought SONY's Wega which was just Rs 2000 higher. I would have not got infuriated with these problems if these occurred after at least 5 years, though my Father's GERMAN-made TV (Beltron) is now 26 years old and gave us only 2 times severe problems due to voltage fluctuations. I would advise you, never buy a PHILIPS. I will somehow get it repaired and exchange it for SONY.

Update:

I got it repaired by a Philips service professional. All he did was porting a new software into the TV through a port. Anyway, this software is not meant for this model. So, this TV continues to display features which are of higher - end model. The service man confessed the audio problem is present in all Philips TV.

It is true. Just a week after he went, the audio problem again came up. Many people on this site have also complained of audio problems in their Philips TV. To them, the service men said, 'it is a safety device of tv, when the voltage fluctautes, the TV shuts off its audio to protect its internal circuitry! What a crap way of disguising the software bug!
