If you believe you are saving from the cost point of view Petrol vs Diesel my calculation says you don't gain much. Say you save RS15 on every liter. you get a Avg mileage of 22KM/ltr for a small car.
The average life of car in India is 1, 00, 000KM. that means you are talking about cost saving for 4500 to 5000liters which is approx Rs.75K, but initially you end up paying 1lakh extra for diesel car, and dont forget the car loan interest. Keep in mind Diesel car need more maintenance, have more vibration and need to be running everyday for few KMs.
Dont buy cars for resale, thats a bad idea. Car becomes a family member once you bring it home.
