There is nothing like categorising diesel or petrol engines as good or bad. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages so what suits you depends on your requrements and preferences.

Talking about the petrol and diesel cars that are available in India, there is a major difference in the usual Diesel engines and the CRDI Diesel engine cars which is available in very few cars like Accent, Scorpio.

In general, diesel engines are powerful but they lack punch and acceleration as compared to petrol. So if you are looking for an adrenalin pumping drive Indica isnt the car for you.

Diesel engines are heavy and so the body required is also heavy, hence diesel vehicles are heavier which makes them more strong, stable but again they loose on acceleration, pickup and results in more tyre wear.

Handling too may be a little inconvenient. Diesel cars are good to drive on open streteches etc but are tiring to drive in city traffic(stop and go conditions) due to comparativley sluggish response.

Diesel engines last longer than petrol ones but they incur higher maintenance cost than petrol engines if you were to get a diesel engine overhauled.

Economical diesel engines like those of the Indica or Indigo are noisy and the noise, vibration can be felt within the cabin as well.

GIven the considerable price difference between diesel and petrol in India, the running cost of diesel cars is much lower.

Some people may argue about the acceleration, comfort not being bad in Indica or any diesel car, but what I mean to say here is that as compared to petrol engines, diesel cars are not as fast, they're more sluggish and ofcourse more economical.

So, a diesel car is for you if you drive long distances, dont mind a little discomfort in handling, drive quality, noise etc in exchange for great economy.

If your priority is power, comfort, you drive in stop and go city traffic and and don't mind spending extra on fuel then you must go for a petrol car.

However, if you can extend your budget and can go for a CRDi diesel car, go for it, because diesel engines built on crdi technology continue to remain econimical, but they are more responsive and much more comfortable to drive.

Hope this helps people, thanks for reading, dont forget to comment and rate this.
