I am planning to buy a car of budget 8 lacs, so did some analysis and came up with this conclusion.Scenario:
8Lac Investment Diesel Vs Petrol
Assumption: difference in fuel price range from Rs 20 to Rs 30 in the next five years,
difference in initial cost 1, 00, 000 put on Fixed Deposit in case of petrol vehicle,
mileage for petrol 10 kmpl and in diesel 15kmpl.

Even if you drive 10000 kms per year, you will save around 50, 000 Rs on Diesel cars.
Did I miss something.
