David Lowery( movie's director) has done a great job here by staying away from the norm of the children movies. The movies catered to child audience are often too brash and noisy with so much editing done, that it feels as if the movies are catered to adults. Pete's Dragon, however, is different.
The movie opens with a little kid named Pete alone and frightened in the forest. However, the kid is rescued by a dragon who is covered with moss and is humongous. Pete, along with his dragon named Elliott by him, remains in jungle and spends his days there. The dragon, even though gargantuan in size, is cute-looking. Pete with his dragon, rush through the jungles, splashing the waters of the stream and enjoying their time.
However, Pete is later noticed by a forest ranger named Grace(Bryce Dallas Howard. He takes her back to the human world. His fiance's brother( Karl Urban) gets to know about that giant dragon and sets out to capture him to earn name and fame.
The movie is easily paced, so you do not have to rush through the narrative. The movie addresses the themes of family, love, kindness and affection. The story is simple, but has been handled beautifully by the director. Overall, it is a great time and worth your time.
