Colas fizz but kill? Think again!

"Are cola-companies messing up with our drinks?” a friend of mine made a presumptuous inquiry drooling over his bar stool interpreting the second innings of the war between CES and colacos.

“How could pesticides kill drunkards like us?” I enquired

“Except the ones who like their vodka with Sprite, whiskey with Coke, rum with Pepsi and gin with Limca” he replied perturbed by the recent controversy.

“Colas fizz but kill”, he emphasized something which could easily make it to the graffiti of most of the top ale houses.

But, I still don’t subscribe to this point of view. For me, alcohol-drinkers have enough things to worry about, probably, more punishing than pesti-colas.

Imagine this! Alcohol traverses through our veins like a city-bus, as if it boasts an all-access pass. There is no body cell resistant to alcohol.

As per books, as you consume more alcohol, and it reaches the cerebellum, your coordination and perception are affected, and you can have memory blackouts. Most likely, by this time you would not espy the pesticide in your drink and if you still manage to do so, you would not care. Then, the alcohol reaches your mid-brain, reflexes diminish, you experience confusion, stupor, and may lapse into a coma. If you are finally ending up in coma, it hardly matters which of the two, alcohol or pesticides, or the concoction of the two, took you there and moreover, you would not be in a conscious stage to be bothered about all such pe(s)tty matters.

You cannot pronounce as truth, anything you cannot factually demonstrate. The pesticide in colas episode, is only another such example of preying on the phobias of unsuspecting people and creating a panic.

How many of us have stopped using mobile phones after someone discovered that excess use of cell-phones caused brain-tumor?

I wonder, is the CSE trying to scare us into submission?

Eat chicken, you get bird-flu. Drink colas, it hits your brain. Talk on your mobile, you get brain tumor. Walk in the sun, you get cancer. Drive your vehicle for long, your spinal rots. Work too long on PC, you loose your sight. One more such thought, you get a heart-stroke!

Here are a few questions that are still bothering my pernicious-cola filled veins.

Is it really so hard to survive in this planet? Guess, we would not be a billion plus now, had it been so.

Why so much hue and cry only in India? Are other nations immune to the cons of pesticides or other nations don’t have institutions like CSE at their service or they aren’t technologically advanced enough to check the pesticides content of it?

And, why any company would like to kill their customers? (Except if they are going out of the business, and there is no such news regarding that).

Stressed too much? Open those bottles and let the pesticides go down your throat; you never know the pesticides may kill the pests of phobia!
