I am shooting this review real fast as I have to go to Mumbai today for an important PR meeting.

PEPSI AND COKE : PESTICIDES

==================

This has become a hugh health issue and a problem for both the multinational giants, the local Govts, the State Govts and the Central Govt and the public at large.

Pesticides in bottles!! All major newspapers and news channels appear to believe and support the CSE report. CSE is an NGO. The Multis have taken them to the courts and challenged the methodology and integrity of the labs where CSE carried out the tests. What else can they do?

For goodness sake, how did the pesticides get into the soft drink bottles?

Pesticides are already playing havoc in India's food chain. Most agriculture soil in India has been destroyed by fertilisers and pesticides. We eat pesticides with our vegetables and most fruit and food products. Even cattle are infected and many milk and milk products have evidence of pesticides and other residual poisons.

Pesticides enter the ground water resources and most bottling plants, at least some must be using ground water and Co2 to make for Pepsi and Coke. Even Bisleri mineral water have been hit by Pesticides.

NGO'S: YELLOW LIGHT

===============

A word of caution. NGO organisations in India and abroad are very media concious. Their main business is exposure. More the exposure of big timers, better business for NGO's. No problems with that, but I am with Coke and Pepsi companies when they seek independent verification of testing products and samples, at labs of repute, rather than relying on NGO reports alone.

Govt organisations of repute like NCL (National Chemical Lab, Pune) and ICMR should be roped in to tell the public what is happening to our ground water resources, pollution levels, soil and to what extent our food chain has been poisoned. Be assured, the Govts at the National and State level have a share of blame. It is precisely here that the weakness lies, which is exploited by all major industrial giants.

THE PROBLEM AND SOLUTIONS:

==================

The problem is so hugh that the TINA (THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE) factor will come into play and it will be business as usual. It has to be, because we do not have the resources, money, the political will, a systems approach l to revamp the the entire cycle that causes pollution. Just look at this PUC (Pollution Under Control) farce!!

Yesterday at my Golf Club, a lady was sipping Pepsi. My wife pointed out that she was drinking poison. She replied '' Today my game is so bad that I want to kill myself. So Pepsi will do for me!''

This attitude will prevail over saner linear logical ways of thinking as has been the case in the West. I refer to the Mad Cow disease...but the beef industry continues to roar. The Pepsi Coke issue will go the same way after a small period of time. Time is the best healer.

Not drinking Pepsi or Coke is no solution to this problem. See the BIG PICTURE. It's not a cycle but a Giant Wheel that is killing us slowly.

Solutions? Okay. Filter everything you drink through REVERSE OSMOSIS technology. Is that a solution? No. So just live with it.

FINALS:

===

I mix a stiff Rum with Coke/Pepsi/T Up. They say the Rum kills germs and neutralises all pesticides.
