That’s so shocking! Anyway, here are my two cents: there was a lot expected from this film - however it does not give you all that was expected. We all know about a great footballer Pele was and were waiting for this film to touch base on some more aspects along with the biography of this great player, however what we instead got is like a half-baked film. The film begins with Pele’s childhood, extreme poor conditions, his struggling family life, story behind his nickname - Pele, then his entry into football at the age of 15, selection for national team at 17 and then his glorious football career, where he stars into world cup winning teams for 3 times, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. It is the promise he makes to his dad, when their country loses the finals against Uruguay in 1950 - that, he is going to win it for his nation, a promise which he fulfills not once but thrice - incredible! The film primarily focuses on his family life, especially his relations with father and efforts he takes to make his son a footballer, really incredible again. What better we could have asked for than having the legend Pele himself as the co-produces of the film together with Indian legend A R Rahman with the back-ground score, but sad enough the film does not goes on to hit a 10 on 10, thanks to some shabby features like acting isn’t so fine enough, the film fails to show-case the Pele’s dream, ambition, struggle in a manner that will leave an impact on the audience, it looks superficial, dramatic, simple! It even does not portray effectively the poverty and extreme difficult conditions in which gems like Pele shine. A lot more efforts, I thought were required to meet the standards and credibility of a film of such a stature. Film does an average job, however if you want to see what the great footballer Pele is made up of - you can watch it. I would say, the film does not do anything different from what happened to Brazil in the 1950 finals!
