The memories of a place are influenced greatly by where you stay . The reason for us to choose Peerless over any other hotel is simply because it is the only hotel in Port Blair to be situated right on the beach of Corbyn's Cove
We wanted to make full use of the proximity of the beach and we did just that - swimming at all possible times of the day .The beach is beautiful and clean with enough people to make you feel safe without feeling crowded. The best part of it is that it is very well lit after sunset too. A night walk in the sand in the gentle breeze with the waves lapping at your feet and is all that you need to feel like you are in heaven .
The restaurant is bright and cheerful and you can expect to be served by people in colourful floral shirts and a Big smile . The food is delicious though the range of deserts is quite limited .
There is a huge garden and a small play area for children . We spent a lot of time on the swings in the shade of big trees . The real disadvantage is that there is no pool , but the sea and it's gentle waves more than makes up for that.
Rooms are a disappointment to most people who expect five star ambience while paying around 3000 for a day . They are ordinary looking but comfortable and clean with a well functioning Airconditioner. The main hotel block is the best place to request a room if you prefer a cheerful atmosphere .All rooms have balconies and you can glimpse the sea in between the trees but we did not need to use the balcony. We simply went and sat on the beach .
They have cottages at Peerless which are bigger in size and closer to the sea and have a swing in the balcony , but it has the same look as the other rooms.
The resort is about 6 kms away from the city and can be accessed by a lovely drive along the sea .The taxi fare one way would be about 80 Rs. Most people sign up for a package for siteseeing .Another alternative is moving around by hired bikes available for a rent of Rs150/day and deposit of Rs1000
We surveyed other hotels like Sheraton Fortune Resorts and Sinclairs bay view . The atmosphere is more elegant at Sheraton and rooms are closer to the sea , but you cannot swim in the sea . They have a salt water pool though .
Sinclairs was under renovation and also quite nice from rooms point of view , but there are rocks on their shore.
Peerless was the best choice for us and we come back with very fond memories of a family hotel .
