By Bangalore's standards, Pecos is a relic-it's been around for 15 years. (Thats long considering the fact that most pubs die out in 2-3 years) Pecos is not your regular-geeky-trance-cocktail-lounge kinds but has managed to maintain its charming character over the years.

From the outside, one would easily overlook the narrow, dilapidated 3 storeyed building, but the music spewing onto the narrow Rest House Road would definitely turn your head to a nondescript sign simply saying ''Pecos'' On entering the pub, the first thing you'll notice will be the numerous rock/jazz posters of yester-years that dot the wall. Almost every single conceivable inch on the walls are take up by these framed treasures. Behind the tiny bar counter, you will not see bottles of smirnoff or Vat 69's, but hundreds of old cassettes.

The furniture on all floors are rickety and aging. The lighting is dim, the floors bear a very worn look, the spiral staircase that goes upto the 1st floor and the 2nd floor are noisy and make metallic noises when stepped on. Pecos does not serve hard liquor, nor does it stock cigarettes. The place gets very crowded on weekends, and you won't even find place to stand! A few people settle on the narrow spiral stairway and enjoy the beer. The toilets are miniscule and inadequate.

But what is it that makes Pecos tick? Why is it that the place is hugely popular even after fifteen years, inspite of all the above mentioned drawbacks. Well there are a lot of answers. Let me start with the music. This is one place that does not give a damn about popular music and popular tastes.

Pecos always played retro and will continue to do so. If your musical fantasy ranges from Janis Joplin to The Grateful Dead to Pink Floyd, this is one place that will not let you down. If you re drinking alone, you ve got plenty of rare posters on the walls to keep you busy, Ive personally never got tired of gazing at them. Besides you always have the Pecos notice board to gaze at!!

The food is fantabulous! Try out the tacos, the beef chilly, and almost all the non-veg dishes. They are great. On Saturdays and Sundays, dont miss out the breakfast. You can try out the english breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausages, mashed potatoes, & toast or the chicken/mutton stew and appams all washed down with a few mugs of beer!!! What a wonderful way to spend a sunday!!

The service is friendly and reasonably prompt. Service during rush hours could be a little delayed, but the food is prepared fast. Pecos is a great place to go to when your alone. Just you and your beer. But then again, if ur bored, you could always turn around on your barstool and strike up a conversation with the guy/girl across the table.

A pitcher of beer always comes with a bowl of popcorn free. Order ten mugs / pitchers and get the 11th one free. All you have to do is ask the waiter for the Pecos card and he will fill up the card at the time of billing. Even if you don't have all 10 pitchers/mugs in one sitting, retain the card and produce it at every billing till it tallies to 10.

Pecos until recently never accepted credit cards, but have started doing so since the past few months. A pitcher of beer would set you back by around 175 bucks, and a mug by around 35. Most dishes are priced between Rs 50-75. All in all a very reasonable place.
