We, friends, decided to go to Goa. It was a spur of the moment decision and we didn't luck out with railway tickets, even with TATKAL - that godsend to the undecided traveler!!I had heard about one bus operator plying volvo sleepers to Goa and aware of the general quality of ride on these marque of buses decided to go ahead and book return tickets.Sitting here typing this, I am simultaneously muttering a prayer for returning in one piece. The to trip cost us 750 bucks a seat/bed and the return ticket was 1100 bucks. Talk about the need to regularize this industry and right under Government of India's nose!!Some points about this trip on Paulo Travels Sleeper Volvo from Bangalore to Goa, return ->> No toilet breaks allowed on the fourteen hour trip.

The Driver lamented that his bosses fined him forty bucks for every hour he was late. Oblivious to entreaties from man/women or child, he just wouldn't stop. Somebody threatened to pee right there in the bus. Somebody else offered to bribe him. We agree that it was a combination of these that made him stop a couple of times along the route. This of course did not prevent some of the passengers peeing into mineral water bottles and tossing them out of the speeding vehicle. The driver was generally lacking in the heart department.>> The speed that the driver drove is generally illegal on most roads even those in developed nations. And it was raining all along the way. The swaying and pitching and that nothing happened inspires confidence in the quality of the buses. Some of the pee that did not go into the bottles was spilt in pants that night.>> I have ridden mostly in all roads in all kinds of vehicles in the southern part of our Great Country and had some experiences - some good, some bad, mostly middling. The Paulo trip, I will put in the folder for unsavory incidences. They even have a notice on the back of the door to the entrance to the bus which states that it is compulsory to tip the bus driver 10 bucks each ticket as per the terms and conditions of purchasing the ticket!!! >> First overnighter that will not give the passenger a blanket. Instead the attendant along with the driver(s) connives together and charges Rs70 for the privilege of using a napkin that they call a blanket!>> Speaking about the attendant - this guy appeared overworked to the point of exhaustion. He was there on both trips wearing the same clothes and displayed behavior that will get him a sound beating one day surely. His rudeness had many a passenger seething especially the time when he threatened a passenger with dire consequences in Goa. Another reason to go to Goa? A beating - if you are travelling via Paulo.Mostly the attendant was a pitiable creature and his general disposition appeared more due to his being overworked than anything else.

The sum total of the above experience?Avoid Paulo Travels anywhere.

Take a train. Indian Rail Rules even today for the budget minded. Or take a plane. Even take a normal Volvo/bus via an operator that you have had a positive experience on.
