Who can be in a better position to comment on the education system in general and Patna university in particular than me, having studied and been a part of it once. I base this opinion totally on my personal experience to which I think very few will disagree.

Well, school life is pretty ok and as usual we have good public schools in Patna, which take care of Mom and Dad’s prized possessions – their children. I was no exception to that and really owe my school for giving me an insight into life and making me a fighter to the core. But it was actually during my high school (10+2 popularly called Intermediate of Science out there) that I was well and truly exposed to the real Bihar. Actually come to think of it, universities are the breeding ground of politicians and Patna University was no exception to it. I was enrolled at Science College, probably the best college in the whole of Bihar and the rush for admission there is really amazing. God knows why!! Well, I too wanted to get an admit there because my Mom and Dad (Mom in particular) didn’t want her li’l child to go and study in Delhi(Delhi was alien to her, who would swallow her innocent child). So, I had no choice but to opt for Science College. I thought it would be a piece of cake but I just managed to slip into the rolls. Phew So many good people. Yeah actually Science College attracts the entire talent from the length and breath of the state. Chalo baba! I was glad that I could make it. But right from the first day the problems started cropping up. There was a strike by the employees union on the very first day and they wouldn’t let anyone even open the gates! You may say, so what, every university has strikes! Well yeah you may be right to some extent but come on a strike for 3 months, yes three long months!! Now what do you say!! Anyway, I was at home studying on my own and wishing everyday that the strike would end. Finally, one bright morning the newspaper came out with the good news and I rushed to my college. All seemed so nice. Regular classes, labs and all. I was happy J But my happiness was short lived as soon the teaching staff went on strike. Why, because they were not getting their pay. They had had some problems with UGC and what not, I don’t know and I don’t care!! Back to the boundaries of my study room again. How frustrating!! I had developed a friend circle by then and whatever the university condition, the students there are really gem!! All some district toppers and very keen to get along with their life. Anyway I will comment on that in later paragraph. Now, what, I told my Mom, Mom look what you did, I am stranded in this place with no classes nothing . Mom was like, study on your own bete!! I argued with her but I knew I had no choice but that was my frustration showing. I was skeptical if I would be able to appear for my IIT JEE or not. Because there were rumors that the session was going to be delayed. But then all of a sudden miracle happened and everything was ok. Happy again!! Now I had the time to savor campus life as I was attending classes for a stretch first time. The campus is very huge but again there are hardly any resources for students. There is a common room but hardly anything to play. There was zilch of an extracurricular activity. The teachers are ok but not great. Ofcourse with many exceptions. I still respect a lot of my teachers over there. There were many student posts and they were filled with some people or student who was an MLA’s son or something on the lines. I had one friend who got through into the college on Governor’s quota, even though he didn’t have requisite qualifications. The Science college campus was a bit decent but in other Patna university colleges crime is the order of the day!! Girls prefer all girls college if they don’t get into Science College that is. Hostel building and rooms are occupied by unauthorized people(mostly criminals). I can go on and on but somewhere you have to apply brakes. Naturally, in such a situation every students first and foremost priority was to get out of this state somehow. We worked real hard and believe me or not, Science college has a lot of people both in IITs and Indian Administrative Services(IAS). I was so jubilant the day I made it to IIT. I guess the happiness was more on count of having made it out of this messy education system, which could reduce u to rubbles. The talent is there and if only Bihar government could pay a little more attention towards the education system, we would be producing stars. I say this because; I have seen students getting destroyed and becoming rowdy, right before my eyes. The system affects a lot but with Laloo and Rabri holding the reins of the state, I don’t see a bright future. Call me an escapist or whatever but when you will in the situation I have been through, the first thing you would want to do would be to get out of the veritable Hell!!

Through my reviews on things in Bihar, I will try and bring the true picture of situation there. I don’t want to make a difference but if my review does something then its more than welcome. I ask people to come out and comment on it, I will be happy to answer them.

Thanks to all who read it, atleast I reached someone!! :)
