I was really paranoid hen I had to get my passport re-issued as it was due to expire. I did not want to go through the rigmarole that one expects when dealing with the Govt. But to my surprise I found the operations at PSK at Aminjikarai well-managed and for once dealing with the Govt was pleasant experience. I was applying through Tatkaal. It took me about 4 hours, but people at the other end were polite and willing to help. All credit should go to Tata Consulting Services and MEA.
A word of caution to those applying for fresh passport/ re-issue. They could ask you for documents that are not necessarily listed on the website. So I would suggest you carry all the documents you have (for identity, address proof, marriage proof, education, employment etc), always good to err on side of caution.
