The way the print and electronic media has been trying to force this movie down our throats, one would expect some poignant, larger than life treat, that one could carry home and would rub onto you

I am sorry but I couldn't appreciate this movie for anything but its mediocrity and sheer morbid obsession with propaganda. I am not a very religious person, and couldn't care less, but what is so Artsy about having a white gandhian being outraged by a group of evil yindoos who spit and give gaalis and make'ooh am so posessed by evil' faces?

The white man also has a narrative that calls the Parishad a peer of the Ku Klux Klan. How convenient is all of this. You couldn't have more loaded but mediocre tosh cooked up to get the message across to ignorant  western audiences as an instant recipe for tasting India's relative barbarity.

You also have that classic, beaten to death'Today I am ashamed to be a Hindu' line, towards the end. when you are going yawwwn . and hoping that the perpetrators get punished so that you can go home

EDITING - This movie needs editing. Agreed its for highbrow intellectuals and its fine subtleties are not be appreciated by us lowly plebs, but what is so stirring about Naseeruddin Shah's pathetically acted out weeping scene in the theatre that goes ON and ON for like an hour. Cry me a river. I know he will get a filmfare award for his performance. Journalists have too much power over our society these days

My other complain stems from a general practice in creative writing that is called'show not tell' I beleive to some extent it holds for movies also because having a few victims blurting out the details is no substitute for the visual immediacy of the real act of arson. This movie has no impact whatsoever in its scenes as far as recreating the scale of violence is concerned. Just get a bunch of victims together and hear what uve already read in the papers . zzzzz

Am not being insensitive, just technical. How does this become a good movie just because it espouses a good cause? If you really want to  know a genuinely good movie  that engages and educates - watch Blood Diamond, and compare. Sorry to say, but if this movie is as great as the reviews say then our threshold of brilliance is infitesmally low. Unfortunately in India benchmarks for excellence are decided by motivated groups enjoying intellectual hegemony to suit their own politica agendas. Movies, books, businesses all have to comfirm to their worldview. Naipaul is all rant because hes right-wing, Modi is Dracula inspite of his governance figures,  Parzania is very engaging with star performances and perfect cinematography:-) Please go watch
