A striking hill station on the borders of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, Parwanoo is a town surrounded by small hills covered with lush green vegetation.

From a sleepy tiny village, the town has become a flourishing industrial town after Himachal Pradesh attained its statehood. Nestled in the foots of scenic Trikuta Mountains at an altitude of 2500ft above sea level, the town is considered as a gateway to discover the beauty of Himachal Pradesh as it is an perfect stopover with its vast orchards and pleasing vistas.

Parwanoo is also just 48km from Jammu thus making it an ideal stopover for the pilgrims travelling to Mata Vashno Devi shrine. So next time when you are visiting either Himachal Pradesh or Haryana do travel to Parwanoo and enjoy the natural beauty it has to offer. According to the history, Parwanoo derives its name from a village “Ooncha Parwanoo” which is situated adjacent to Haryana.

Developed as an industrial township in 1973 right after Himachal Pradesh was recognized as an Indian state on January 25th 1971, Parwanoo today is one of the main industrial townships in the state. With the efforts of the first chief minister of the state Y.S. Parmar, the township was transformed from an offbeat little town to a thriving tourist spot and a famous stopover for the travelers.

You can take the train from Kalka which is the meeting point of narrow gauge and wide gauge trains and is just two kilometers away from the town. Alternatively you can take the train on narrow gauge route from Kalka to Shimla that goes via Parwanoo. The best time to visit this town is during Mid May - mid Oct. Summers season is from March to May when the weather is pleasant and the maximum temperature during day is 30 degree Celsius.

From June to September the monsoon season starts and with heavy rains travelling can become a little difficult, as approach roads are narrow. Winter kicks in from December to February and though the mercury drops down to 8 degree Celsius during the daytime, as long as you are warmly clad it is a very pleasant time to be here. You can also visit this little town post monsoons and pre winters as the weather during October and November is also pleasant and idealas the mercury hovers in the high 20s during these two months.
