Well, I normally try out different shaving creams and foams in the market, since I get bored with a single particular cream / foam. But this was by far the worst shaving cream I have every used in my life (of about 3 years in shaving).

Why?... well, lets find out, shall we, along with a quick review of all the shaving creams I have used till now (sort of a shaving cream guide ;).

First of all, the Park Avenue, it was a variant called 'Enjoy' and it had around 50% free written on it for it's 70g pack. Well, being a sucker for such stuff, I went ahead for it over my usual Godrej / Gillette / Nivea.

It cost around Rs. 48, around par with other brands but it had one major flaw...

It does not allow your razor to cut the hair... let me clarify.... its got an awfully oily texture which allows the razor to 'glide' over the skin, thus provoking less irritation and cuts... but at least let the razor cut the beard!!!

And this is not a fluke... I tried shaving with a Mach 3, a disposable Gillette razor and a twin blade Vector Plus... and in all cases, the razors simply failed to cut the beard down...

So.. my word of warning, stay away from the Park Avenue 'Enjoy' shaving cream if you ever want a close shave... quite strange really, since I use a Park Avenue After Shave which isn't bad at all.

So there, the Park Avenue is rubbish, but what about everything else?

Well, lets first finish off with shaving foams... you may have seen them in the shops, in large 200ml cans, and at around Rs. 100 - 290 (depending on the brand), they are good or ok value for money. I have only tried out the Red Gillette Foam and the Glide Brand Foam will now... Foams are good if you want to apply it fast via hand and not bother with a shaving brush, and the results are good as well, if not quite as close as shaving with a cream... but they are more irritating on the skin... Maybe next time I will try the Nivea Shaving Foam (around Rs. 225 per can), which may be better.

And lets now get back to shaving creams, shall we? I have tried a few, and they are:

  1. Godrej (Normal, Menthol and Lime)... all are quite good and reasonably priced, with good lather and average irritation after you shave. They also do not have an oily texture after you use them, but the best part about them is that (for me at least), they do provide the closest shave, no matter which razor I use). Available in 70g packs.

  2. Park Avenue... good value and good fragrance, but for heaven's sake... DON'T.

  3. Nivea shaving cream... a bit more expensive that the Godrej, but which much less irritation on the skin and almost as close a shave... but Nivea sells in a metal tube, like Old Toothpaste tubes were sold a couple of decades ago... arrgghhhhhh!!!! Nivea, grow up!

So there you have it, my line of shaving creams and foams I have used till date. If you have tried out a shaving cream which is really good, please let me know... else I'm planning a switch to those electric Philips shavers.
