The MARRIED woman!!!. Review on Parineeta

Well,everyone knows that it’s the season of biggies,this summer.One after the another,a big budget film is releasing.This week,we have ”Parineeta”,from Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the maker of films such as ”1942-A Love Story”,”Munnabhai M.B.B.S” and many more.This one is a historical movie,which is set in 1962,Kolkatta.It seems that this is not only a season of biggies but also the season of historical movies.Recently,a big budget historical film called ”Bose:The Forgotten Hero”,released and there are more historical films coming up,such as ”Taj Mahal- An Eternal Love Story”,”The Rising”,or J.P Dutta`s ”Umraao Jaan”.While the recently released periodic ”Bose” flopped and with so many other historicals coming up this season,will ”Parineeta” still be able to attract audiences to the theatres?

Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s. ”Parineeta”,directed by Pradeep Sarkar,stars Saif Ali Khan,Sanjay Dutt,Vidya Balan (introducing),Raima Sen,Dia Mirza and Rekha.This is Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s second periodic saga after the critically acclaimed,”1942- A Love Story”.Will,”Parineeta”,too create the same magic as “1942-A Love Story”?

”Parineeta”,tells us the love story of Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan) and Lolita (Vidya Balan).Shekhar belongs to a rich family,whose father owns a business,where as Lolita belongs to a middle class family,who is an orphan and so,she was brought to her maternal uncle`s house,which is close to Shekhar`s house.So,Lolita happens to be Shekhar`s neighbour.Shekhar is very fond of music and playing piano and music means life to him.Lolita has everything in life,which does not make her feel lonely.She has a mother and a father in the form of her maternal uncle and aunt.She has a sister in the form of her cousin (Raima Sen).Since Lolita,was a child she had been visiting Shekhar`s house and since childhood,she shares a very special relation of friendship with Shekhar and when they grow up,they feel that they mean more than friends to each other.Yes,they`re in love but the one who acts as a barrier in this love story,is Shekhar`s father-he is arrogant,he is rich and he does not want his son to get married to a girl who belongs to such a middle class family.Currently,Lolita works in Shekhar`s father`s business and earns some amount of money with which she can send money on herself and her family.One tragic incident takes place,when Lolita`s uncle gets ill and this causes the separation between Shekhar and Lolita.Lolita`s aunt asks Shekhar`s father to lend her a huge amount of money for Lolit`s uncle`s treatment and also agrees to the term that if she will be unable to return him the money back,he can take away their properties and house.Shekhar`s greedy father already plans to convert Lolit`s uncle`s house into a hotel and causes lots of problems for Lolita and her family.In this situation,Girish (Sanjay Dutt),a London based Indian,enters in the form of an angel who helps Lolita and her family,because he already falls in love with Lolita.As Girish is able to get Lolita and her family out of all the problems,Shekhar`s father starts hating Girish.Menawhile,Girish gets very close to Lolita and her family which makes Shekhar get very jealous.Looking at Girish`s one-sided love for Lolita and Shekhar`s jealousy,Shekhar`s father causes misunderstandings between Shekhar and Lolita.After a series of misunderstandings,Shekhar and Lolita part their ways and Lolita ends up marrying Girish.Shekhar replies to this action of Lolita by getting ready to be married with Gayatri Tantia (Dia Mirza),a good friend of his,who actually likes Shekhar.Shekhar`s father is very much satisfied with this decision of Shekhar,as Gayatri is the type of daughter-in-law,his father had wanted,who belongs from a very rich and a wealthy family.Will Shekhar get married to Lolita?What will be his attitude towards Lolita,who is now married to Girish?Are there any chances of these misunderstandings being removed and can Shekhar and Lolita get together again?To know,the answers to these questions,watch this film.

Saif Ali Khan is a good actor and this thing he proved in 2001,in ”Dil Chahta Hai”.After DCH,came ”Kal Ho Naa Ho” and ”Hum Tum”.All three of these films were light-hearted and entertaining films,in which Saif did comic roles,but this time this is a completely new Saif,in ”Parineeta”.In this film,he proves that until now,how terribly he was being wasted by the filmmakers of Bollywood.Saif proves that he can carry off even a serious role on his shoulders with equal brilliance.Saif gives one such performance which will be one of the most memorable performances he has ever given.You have to see it to believe it!

Sanjay Dutt as the nice and calm Girish is also no less.Though,his role is not lengthy as Saif`s and Vidya`s,he still manages to leave an impression after the film ends.This role was like a challenge for the actor who has mostly played a don/gangster in his films and fortunately he manages to be successful in this challenge.He looks what he is playing and he performs in such a way that you actually fall in love with Girish`s character.

Vidya Balan makes her debut on the big screen after doing some music videos and TV commercials.Alright,so when I used to watch her on the TV commercials,I used to call her an “aunty”,maybe because she used to be dressed in a “sari” and usually used to play the role of a mother in the TV commercials.So when I saw the trailor of ”Parineeta” for the first time,I was like “what is this aunty doing as the main actress in such a big budget Bollywood flick?”,but after watching the trailors of this film for about three months and after watching this film,I`ve started liking her a lot.She doesn`t look like an aunty to me anymore,but a very attractive and dignified girl.The debutante actress shines in her firest ever film and has a lot of talent which will help her to make a position of herself in Bollywood.The actress has very expressive eyes,which look as if they are constantly talking and saying something.Her eyes say it all,what even she cannot speak.This results in a wonderful performance.Her dialogue delivery is also excellent and she looks beautiful,as well.She is not an Aishwarya Rai or Madhuri Dixit but she has her own beauty.Her personality and her screen presence makes her look so beautiful and magical.Watch out for this performance,too!

Others also do a very good job.Raima Sen should do more films,as she proves that she knows and understands acting.Dia Mirza looks gorgeous and it`s a welcome change to see her in a good film after watching her in B-grade films such as ”Naam Gum Jaayega” or the recently released ”Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai”.Others such as the one who plays Shekhar`s father or Lolita`s maternal uncle and anut,lend able support.Rekha in her much talked about item number looks beautiful and YOUNG as ever.
