Parichay that means introduction.

This movie that came out in 1972 is kind of based on the english classic -Sound of Music. Directed by the legendary Gulzar this movie tells the tale of a young man Ravi played by Jeetendra. Unemployed in the city, financial pressures force him to take up a job as a teacher in his ancestral village.

But teaching is not such an easy job especially if the children are the grandchildren of the Rai Saheb(played by pran) the rich and reputed businessman.The grandchildren include Rama the eldest of them all (played by Jaya Bachhan) followed by Vijay, Sanjay ,Neeta and the youngest Raju.

All the kids follow their eldest sibling Rama didi and all of them hate their grandfather Rai Saheb and have resolved to disobey him. Rai Saheb arranged for tutors to teach the youngest four as all of them had left their studies but of no use, all of them ran away thanks to the kids. Rai Saheb also has his sister Sati to help him bring up the children but the kids hate her even more thanks to her regular scolding and beating them.

The reason for the hatred of the children is that they consider Rai Saheb responsible for their father's (Sanjeev Kumar in a cameo) death. Sanjeev Kumar plays Rai Saheb's son who had left his father's home after marrying his guru's daughter had died leaving behind a family of five children in a state of poverty. Then Rai Saheb had brought the children to his house to bring them up learning with the values and ettiquetes of the rich. But their resistance and coldness towards their grandfather dissapoints Rai Saheb and in his last effort to bring the children(who are animals in his view) on the right track, he appoints Ravi as their new teacher.

Will Ravi be able to succeed in bringing happiness back to the family ?

This movie is one of those light hearted movies that make us look at the positives of our life and make it seem really simple.

The music of this movie has been rendered by R.D Burman along with lyrics by Gulzar. The movie has some really good songs like 'musafir hoon yaaron' ,'beeti na bitai raina'.

And I really believe that nothing can go wrong in the direction as long as Gulzar is the director. His wittiness and his trademark sarcastic sense of humour find their way in this movie too. So watch this movie for some light hearted fun.
