A few years ago, Pantene's ad campaign featured commercials with actress and model Kelly LeBrock that showed her tossing her mane of perfect, glossy brown hair and pouting, ''Don't hate me becasue I'm beautiful.'' You can imagine how this became the most annoying catch phrase of the year, often repeated in sitcoms on a weekly basis.
Luckily for Pantene, their ad campaign hasn't hurt their product's performance. This is pretty good shampoo.
I have been using Pantene Pro V Classic Care on my hair for about three years. If I had enough money to buy my favorite shampoo, I would still be buying KMS from the salon around the corner. But Pantene is reasonably priced when I go to my local Wal-Mart, usually for under $3.50 American dollars. I also use the accompanying conditioner for Normal to Dry hair, since my hair is long, curly, and coarse.
Pantene smells fragrant without being too flowery, it has more of a ''cologne'' scent. The shampoo comes out of the bottle a pearly white, and it is also quite thick. Unlike most thick shampoos, however, Pantene does not work up that thick of a lather. Even though I prefer lather when I am shampooing my hair, Pantene does not leave as much buildup as some of the heavily lathering shampoos. Finesse in particular is one brand that DOES leave behind a lot of buildup.
I have no idea what ''Pro V'' vitamins are, and I know that vitamins applied topically to your hair do nothing; for your hair to benefit from vitamins, you have to actually get them in your daily diet. But that is Pantene's marketing ploy. They still use supermodels to market their product, and they always have amazingly glossy and perfectly placed hair.
My recommendation for using Pantene products is to try this very basic shampoo, or Pantene's dandruff shampoo. I would avoid the shampoo made for permed and overprocessed hair. I tried this shampoo and the accompanying conditioner and broke out in a rash. This is the shampoo in he lavender bottle. You may want to avoid Pantene's hairspray, as it tends to be very flaky.
