It was built as a source of water storage however it became popular in 1961 when the dam collapsed and the water from the dam engulfed the entire city of Pune. Since then the dam has been restored and now is a well-known weekend getaway for the residents of Pune and Mumbai. You can drive into Panshet from Pune via Khadakwasla and Sinhagad.

The view on this route is pretty scenic so you will surely enjoy the drive. You can also drive into Panshet from Mumbai via Talegaon, Pune bypass Highway, and Khadakwasla. The best time to visit Panshet is from October to May, when the weather is conducive for sight-seeing and taking part in various water sports activities. During the summer season, from March to June, Panshet receives moderate rainfall during the monsoon season, from July to September.
