Plasma TV is a good choice for its size-cost ratio

I had bought a Panasonic Plasma TV ( P50U20D; full high definition- 1080p) after considerable research about an year back. (from Panasonic brand shop in Pondicherry)

Not many people realise that a plasma TV gives a better picture quality compared to LCD tv with beautiful blacks, nice realistic colours and gives no motion artifacts. In a show room, a plasma TV might look dull compared to the intense brightness of LCD/LED-LCD but a plasma tv is much more soothing to the eye in one's house, especially at night. Also as the size increases (42 inches and more) the price is much less than that of LCD/LED. You get more bang for the buck. Yet, most of the salesmen push for LED and LCD saying that plasma is old technology perhaps because they get better profit selling LCD/LED!! (actually LCD technology is older than plasma) I had bought if for 75, 000 while a similar sized LED would have costed nearly two lakhs.

It is bulkier compared to LCD and LED and heavier but this hardly matters when you wall mount it. (you are not holding it, are you?!)

My advice to you is to go for a plasma TV for any given amount of money. Get the largest size possible. Because size really matters! Wall mount it at an eye level and try to sit within 100-200 cms of the TV to get that immersive effect (visual angle of 30 degrees). (generally technicians will mount it higher, but comfort is maximum if the centre of the screen is at eyelevel at your most comfortable sitting position. Additional accessories recommended are nice big bean bags (two of them, one for your butt and one for your tired legs!!), air conditioning, Tata sky plus, bluray player, and perhaps a home theatre speaker to augment the sound. (speakers of the tv are ok but not great, as is for any TV)

Only Panasonic and Samsung manufactures plasma panels, and I found that for this particular model at least, the cost was less for Panasonic.

I did not buy the neo-pdp screen since it was significantly more expensive though it was much brighter. Like I said, for the same resolution, buy the biggest screen!

You should however consider buying the (annoyingly bright) LED TV if the room in which you are installing it cannot be made dark. (like if the room is always very bright, plasma will look dull or will have glares)

Otherwise, go for that huge plasma TV and long live as a couch potato! Bigger the better!
