You know it when you are having a good time. Thats the feeling we (me and wife) had when we toured goa during March. While every moment was greatly enjoyable, the days and night spent at Calangute beach are the most cherished. Calangute beach as many travel sites will tell you is located in North Goa which can be easliy reached from the train station or airport. Good idea do get fown at Karmali railway station if you are travelling by train. A 150-200 rupees drive in an auto (cabs charge more) on the scenic route over the Mandvi river takes you to my favorite destination - Calangute Beach. Never mind what time of the day you arive you can start having fun right away. We had our booking in the GTDC hotel situated right on the beach. After checking into our second floor room, whic had a wonderful view and a see facing balcony to boot, I could quickly rejoice that this was easily one of the best accomodations I could have given the budget. We were paying 1100 per night for this AC double bed room.
Yes head for the beach at will that what you gonna do staying in this hotel. It is irreristable really. Other day activities could include para saling, water scooters and all kinds of various water sports. All this are available withing 100 yards of the hotel. An if you are less adventurous you could just watch for hours the para sailers taking off in the colorful canopies. Lucnh time is aroundthe corner now and you have sevral options bith in the hotel and nearby restaurants. A specialty goa food restaurant is also there on the other side of the road. You could try the prawn curry there, I found it great. Take a long lunch, the seats are comfortable, the sea is beautiful and the waiters are friendly. Do tip them, you would want to. A little nap in the aternoon will only help to recharge yourself after a hectic morning. Even time is shopping time. Yes and there are infinite shops off all kinds as you get out your hotel. There is local art, clothes, ornaments etc. Bargaining is a must but mostly you will be happy with what you buy. The stuff are of good quality. You can ofcourse buy other necessities like camera rolls, battery or even change your money. The whole area is lighted up beautifully and you can realy shop till you drop. Soon you would be hungry and Souza Lobo right on the beach is the place to satisfy yourself. Good Food, live music, great crowd, and reasonably fast service (not that you would want to leave early) will make your day complete. A thoroughly beautful day with simple activites but great plaesures and reasonable prices. Enjoy!!
