Excuse the mis quote from Lawrence of Arabia. I got a 2002 palio petrol second hand for 2 lakhs in 2003 end. A new one cost 4.1 lakhs then. Mine was run only 18000/- km- orange-tangerine mist. It has given me no problem whatsoever . I ve driven it only about 15000/- kms but mostly on the highway at speeds betwen 90-120km/hr. Absolutely rock solid. This car is grossly over engineered in the mould of Skoda and Mercedes and is absolutely silent and sturdy. Certainly much better than Ikons and Accents, the Indica is like a tin box in comparison. However the cons are that its seating is very low, the mileage relatively poor (10km/ltr with sedate driving in the city, though it gives 16 on the fast lane) and rather wide for crowded city use. However driving on the Highway is an absolute breeze and you will arrive fresh as a daisy after a hard days 500km ride eager for more! Very comfortable for kids and the elderly as its rear seats are spacious and it does not porpoise or cause 'sea sickness'. Am very glad that Fiat have tied up with Tata, infact the only long term hope for Tata Motors is to hitch on to the Fiat palio/Grande Punto as the Indica/indigo are growing long and yellow in the teeth! They have not been able to move the Xeta and no new cars are forthcoming from Tata though they even sacked one of their top bosses. The new Palio might shore up Fiat in the short term and Tata itself in the long run. A super bargain would be to go in for a used Palio now which is available for as little as Rs 1.30 lakhs. The problems are an occasionaly noisy suspension, and water pump/fuel pump failure which are not too bad on the pocket. There are absolutely no issues with build quality or the engine which can withstand a nuclear winter. With my car I have the same 'feel' that people have with the new generation 7-10 lakh cars. All in all a good buy, worth its weight in gold. Pl be patient and rate this review. Gives me a high.
