Like others I have done a lot of research before buying the Palio as it was going to be my first car. The conclusion of my research was that as long you can afford the car it doesnt make much difference on which brand you buy.
My considerations were:
1) Safety and handling as I dont have any driving experience.
2) Should be spacious
3) Good for city & occassional long drive
4) Price below 5 lacs
5) Value for money - as I dont want make the car companies richer by paying for nothing
I short listed Getz, Xeta and Palio.
Maruti's were ruled out due to point # 5 and safety reasons. Getz again, due to point #5 and poor ground clearance. I almost decided on Xeta and visited the Concorde showroom in Bangalore. Then, I happend to see Palio there , I liked the look, built quality and interiors where better that Xeta. I test drove the car and found very easy to handle it. Thus I zeroed on Palio and bought it. I got a discount of around 85K including a Blaupunkt music system.
Pros
1)Spacious
2)Sedan like feeling
3)Very good for long drive
4)Good interiors
5)Value for money - (well, I am not bothered about the resale value at the moment)
6)Strong built
Cons
1)Gear movement is found to be bit stiff. Heard that it will be fine after 1st service.
2)Dash board is found to be loosely connected as I am getting a disturbing noise during acceleration.
3)Little sluggish on 1st and 2nd gears
I am not in a position to comment on the fuel economy as the odo is still below 500. Planning for a long drive and will update the review after 1K.
Thanks
