Paheli is the much touted hatke cinema from the stables of the hatke directors like Amol Palekar which unfortunately is too hatke for the commercial cinema and poor patrons like me who actually took time out to go and watch it. There were all of 15 people in the theatre (it was morning show).

Well, coming back to the movie. It is a remake of an old movie called Duvidha. Without giving the plot away too much Rani Mukerji is married and her husband (Shah Rukh) has to go away the next day for business she is naturally very upset since he is going away with even consummating the marriage. Later a ghost who has fallen in love with her comes to her taking the shape of Shah Rukh Khan her duvidha is whether to accept him knowing fully well he is not her real husband.... . well thats about it. Rani Mukerjee is clearly not suited for the role Aishwarya may have been better since she is beautiful enough for even ghosts to fall in love.

The movie seems like an extended chayageet with songs suddenly beginning and ending. Shah Rukh Khan is endearing but his potential is not fully realised. The movie doesn't seem to blend in easily seems very fragmented as if shot in spurts and just edited up. It is not as visually stunning as Hum Dil De Chuke or Devdas.

Palekar has lost the essence of it and could not capture the real dilemma perfectly which should have been the highlight which is brushed off in 10 seconds.

Except for Shah Rukh there is no redeeming factor. Rani's worst movie in recent times that is for sure. Watch it if your other otpion is Bachke Rehna.....
