It's good to be first to write review on anything and I am enjoying the pleasure for first time.I watched this movie before its release 4-5 days back at Pune International Film Festival but had to wait till the mouthshut people added this movie in the review list.I wish they do it on Friday itself instead of Saturday.I watched a couple of others (read Black Friday)about which I will write later as they were much more controversial and so will be my reviews.
This is the first movie on this subject.The concept of page 3 itself came in last 3-4 years where we get to know about parties of rich and famous in city on page 3 of city supplements of papers .The advertising campaign of the movie on Page3 of national daily supplements yesterday and today (many of you would have noticed it by now)itself saying everything they can not publish here.
Movie starts with a Page3 party and also ends with another one but a whole reference has changed for the Lead Lady of the movie Madhavi Khana(Played by Konkona Sensharma) and also the viewers who get to know much more these party animal who are rich and famous of city.
Madhavi is a journalist with newspaper and her work there is to attend and write about these parties. All is going on well and fine.
In personal life Madhavi stays with an airhostess who is looking for someone rich to marry her.She has a boyfrind who is upcoming model and Madhavi sometimes tries to give him publicity.All is going on well and fine.
Somehow she gets bored with this life and asks her editor Deepak Suri(played by Boman Irani)to work in crime section of the newspaper. She starts working with crime journalist of the same newspaper.
Finally she comes to know such secrets of rich and famous with whom she attends these parties,that she had to lose her job. Finally she starts again with another job of same kind with another newspaper.
As in many films there is a struggling actress(played by Tara Sharma) wanting to make name in Bollywood with high ideals but compromises in the end. As always there is one Bollywood Star who uses such girls (played by Bikram Saluja).There is as always good cop and bad one. As always the good one is at low level and bad one at higher. As always there is a dedicated journalist mentioned above(Played by Atul Kukarni )who is coworker of Madhuri and who helps police.
There is just one song. Background music is a bit loud. Most part of movie happens in night.
Performances are good.Konkona justifies her role and others support weel.Nothing extraordinary to show for others in performance.
So why I am rating it as 4 stars and recommending it? Well that's because the way the movie has been presented. All characters are well written and well justified in their stand. All in all 15 characters but all have purpose for them. Some characters justify their wrong deeds ,some run away from truth,some compromise, some surrender to the system and some like our heroine decide to keep fighting on.There are neither unnecessary scenes nor characters.The script(again by Madhur) is very tight bound.It never deviates from the main theme.The speed of movie is good.
This is 4th movie by Madhur Bhandarkar after Chadni Bar,Satta and Aan and onbe more which I don't remember.Pearsonally I felt Madhur could not reach heights he created by first two movies in next two.Here he comes back on track with this one. All of them are woman centered (he told in press conference that he can't afford our Indian heroes :-))
Definitely an eye opener both by the topic and content of movie and bye the movie as art-piece itself,one which would feel you to wait for Madhur's next movie.
Not suitable watching with family but surely worth alone or with friends.
