One of the most awaited film, this year is ?Paa9?(that`s how they write the name of this film in the trailors, with one ?P?, facing the left side). First of all, this is actress-turned filmmaker Pooja Bhatt`s, directorial debut. Secondly, in the previous film from the same production banner, the audience saw a ?hot? film like ?Jism?.

After ?Jism?, it is obvious to have high expectations from this film, as well, which is another ?hot? movie. This is the first film which was premiered in Karachi-PAKISTAN at the Kara Festival. This is another speciality about this film, which to an extent helped to make better relationships between India and Pakistan. The film has lots of ?hot? scenes, some songs sung by Pakistani popstars and fresh faces, so what's the result obtained by adding all these factors?

THE FILM:

Fish Eye Networks. ?Paap?, directed by Pooja Bhatt?, stars John Abraham, Mohan Agashe and introduces a fresh, young face, Udita Goswami. This is one such film, which created lots of excitements, amongst the viewers, due to several reasons. The name of this film, is an unusual one which means SIN. So, there is some curiosity amongst the viewers for this film. What is the so-called sin?To, check it out, keep on reading?.

THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:

  1. Kaaya(Udita Goswami):Kaaya is the main character of this film. She lives in Spiti, with her superstitious father, who doesn`t allow her to live the life of a normal girl but still there is a girl hidden inside her body, who is very much normal, very indifferent, from other girls.

Udita Goswami, gets a dream role, as the main character of this film and she doesn't disappoint. She has different looks, which is good for this movie, because watching a familiar face in the role of Kaaya, couldn`t have been that impactful. Her face expressions are quite good, but she just needs to polish up her acting skills. At some scenes, she looks a bit uneasy, but I must admit, that this is a very good start, for her!

  1. Shiven(John Abraham):Shiven, is a police officer, who doesn`t believe in things like reincarnation. He is not at all a superstitious person. John Abraham, as Shiven is good, actually better than as what I saw him in ?Aetbaar?. He looks good and does his job well, but I wonder, that when will he ever has his own voice, in a film?

Mohan Agashe, as Kaaya's strict father does an excellent job. The others(Gulshan Grover, Anahita Uberoi, etc.) in the supporting cast are also good, in their roles.

THE STORY:

?Paap? is a story set up in the village Spiti, where a girl called Kaaya lives. Kaaya`s father is a very superstitious person who doesn`t want Kaaya to take pleasure from all the worldly things, as they will not be useful at all, for her next life. He believes that if Kaaya will follow his rules, only then she will live happily in her next life.

A Buddhist, finds out that a great monk's reincarnation took place, in the form of Llahmo,a six-year-old kid, in Delhi. Kaaya is appointed to bring Llahmo to Spiti. In Delhi, Kaaya finds out that Llahmo, is a witness of a very important murder case, and also that his life is in danger. It is inspector Shiven, who takes charge of protecting Kaaya and Llahmo. Shiven takes both Kaaya and Llahmo, back to Spiti, safely. On his way, he has been injured, because of all the attacks of Llahmo`s enemies.

As Shiven is in such a situation, he stays in Spiti, for somedays to recover, but slowly slowly, Kaaya begins to get attracted towards Shiven. She commits a SIN, by falling in love with someone, which was strictly denied, in her case.

THE WORK OF THE CREW:

Pooja Bhatt`s, direction is good, considering the fact that this is her directorial debut. She has done a good job, with making some scenes interesting, for instance the one where Kaaya is appointed to find Llahmo, or where Kaaya`s father finds out that what`s happening between Shiven and Kaaya. The best thing is that there is no melodrama, in this film, but the climax is not all that well executed.

Screenplay, is gripping, from where Kaaya has to go to Delhi, but it makes some questions remain unanswered in the second half or pre-interval. Kaaya falls in love with Shiven. Agreed! But how? This thing is not explained well. From my point of view, she was attracted to him, but not in love with him. Never mind, as there were also some gripping moments, in the film.

Script,of the movie, is very interesting and different, which is the plus point of this film.

Editing is sharp, which doesn`t make you feel, as if the film is unnecessarily dragged.

Cinematography, is of top class. The way, Spiti is captured on the camera, is wonderful. It makes you see this film, till the end. Very stylishly and artistically done! The background music, is another positive aspect of this film, which is very effective, as well as impactful. Anu Malik`s and Music Mushrooms music is amongst the best, in the recent times. ?Intezaar?(which is placed at the very right moment),?Mann Ki Lagan?(By the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan`s,grandson. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan), and ?Garaj Baras?(By Ali Azmat, from the Pakistani pop group ?Junoon?, which is mainly used in the background score), are the best of the lot.

ON THE WHOLE:

?Paap?, is a film mainly made for the classes. It is a very different film from your routine Bollywood fares. Of course, this is not a film, to be seen with your family, so this film should be viewed alone. Although the film has some flaws, but the overall outcome is very good. This film won't let you down, as it is so beautifully made. A must see!
