Yes that was the only good portion in the movie, everything else was just bus intezaar for the good movie to start. What was being intended? Was it to make a cop thriller, to make an erotica, or to make a philosophical fable? Whatever it was, it has failed badly. Let’s discuss all of them one by one.

A cop Thriller

When we have a cop thriller like Khakee running to packed houses, where is the scope for a movie like Paap. Moreover, it has also not been treated properly. The beginning is good, a sincere cop getting frustrated by an obscure corruption in the system, and then trying to do his bit. But, thereafter the cop story almost ended abruptly, until the end, when the HERO sends the wrong one to their nemesis. Not thrilling enough!

An Erotica

To be very frank, this was I expected this movie to be, but the movie has failed completely here. Except the song Intezaar, there is not a single sequence in the movie, which could have aroused erotic senses. With due respect to Censor Board, who wants to see a robe clad girl getting kissed all over the garment by a semi nude guy. If you can’t convince the Censor Board of the difference between vulgarity and eroticism, then better don’t attempt a half baked erotica. I fail to understand, how Shekar Kapoor was able to convince the board to show a nude Women walking in open? Must have got some really good convincing skills?! Probably, didn’t even had much substance to convince!

A philosophical Fable

Yes, may be here the thinking was right, but how many people really care to take a lesson in philosophy after spending a couple of dollar. Especially, if the initial expectations were something alien. However, the philosophy part in the movie is quite convincing. “Desire to control desire is also a desire only” By the way, most of the times, philosophical fables are generally made, keeping a different kind of audience in mind, and that is why most of them fall in the category of so called “art movies”. Definitely, this was not the intention, so a failure again.

Songs

Two songs, Intezaar and Mann ki Lagan, are good, but not good enough to carry movie on their shoulders. However, the treatment was nice, especially the picturisation.

Cinematography

Well, the work with camera has been good, some sequence have been very well presented, full use of exploiting model figures has been made. The two models have looked really good in some of the sequences.

Acting

John Abraham has looked quite convincing, except when he tried comedy. Otherwise, he has done a fair job to expectations from his role. Udita Goswami has looked good, but not tempting enough. Also, somewhere it seems, she has still to learn a lot in the field of acting. Her inability to act came out prominently in her failed attempt to portray confused state of lust and abstinence. Probably the order was a bit too tall. Also, she looked desperate in crying sequences. Mohan Agashe, a seasoned actor, convinced once again. And that was expected too!

All in all, the movie is not a good entertainer, and could turn out to be a total waste of time. Be careful while making a decision.
