I had a very bad experience at Paaneri located at 217, Ceaser's Court Hsg. Soc. S. V. Road, Andheri (W) Mumbai - 58, India. On November 26, 2010. I had been there with my family for saree shopping. The fancy saree division was on 2nd floor. When the salesman was displaying the sarees he was repeatedly insisting on not looking at the price tag and concentrate only on the saree. We selected a saree costing Rs.11, 500. My mother-in-law had seen the price tag and I too agreed on the price.
We had to come down to the billing section by lift. When we saw the bill we had shock of our life. The bill was Rs.13, 750. When we asked why it was more they showed the price tag which shocked and surprised us further. The price tag now showed Rs.13, 750. When we argued saying it was Rs.11, 500 they refused to accept. When we created some noise they were hesitant and the salesman and the owner started talking in codeword like KK, KT etc.
When we came down for billing in lift, the salesman came by steps and he quickly changed the price tag which was clearly made out by us, as it was a new tag. Though they refused initially, later they brought down the price later to Rs.12, 000.Ideally we should have walked out. Since we liked the saree very much we paid Rs.500 more and bought it.
It was disgusting to see such reputed shops practicing such 'C' grade tactics. I am sure that majority of the customers would not have argued and just paid the price and wen we buy more clothes we usually ignore the individual price and concentrate on final bill.
When we go to any shop as a customer its the 'trust' which plays major role and price to lesser extent. It would be hard for me to trust any big brands from now. I have learnt a lesson from this and will be more careful in future.
Friends in case you plan to visit this shop please be careful.
