In the era when films are being marketed for bareback/topless heroines or stunning visuals or ‘X’ number of smooches, etc here comes a film that is devoid of all these ingredients, which many think are essential to sell a film or to attract crowd to the theaters to give their film a rocking start at the box office.

A.B. Corps’ produced ‘PAA’ in association with Reliance Big Pictures dares to risk & came up with a simple film, which is made with well controlled budget & filmed in the atmosphere where huge sets or lavish production values were not at all required.

The makers believed in the subject, ignored unnecessary controversies to promote the film, just concentrated on their tasks & came up with a product that is nothing short of an extraordinary film, which can be enjoyed with entire family where members of all age can sit together & watch.

Abhishek Bachchan & Vidya Balan, both students, falls in love with each other & crosses all limits, which results in pregnancy. Since Abhishek wants to pursue his studies, he suggests Vidya to get aborted. She prefers to leave him & delivers the baby, who unfortunately suffers with a disease called progeria. Abhishek of course, is not aware of it.

12 years down the line, Abhishek Bachchan is a successful politician; Vidya Balan is a successful Gynecologist & the child is in the last stages of his life, when by destiny they cross each other, which forms the crux of the story.

R. Balki as a writer & director deserves a pat on his back for being a master story-teller. He kept the story very simple from start to finish & have succeeded in keeping the material alive throughout without any melodrama or high voltage emotions. On the contrary, he has kept the film light throughout.

Very aptly in between the scenes, R. Balki has touched the politics, the misuse of power by media, etc. & the beauty is that it doesn’t hinder the flow of the main story as it opens our eyes to some hidden facts.

The scenes between Vidya Balan & Amitabh Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan & Abhishek Bachchan are so beautifully written & executed that it leaves a great impact on the viewer, which is the hallmark of a person who knows his job.

During the times of commercialization when everybody wants to sign people who are in demand, the makers broke the shackles of the trend & opted for Ilaiyaraja to compose the music for the film, who in return lived up to their expectations & have composed great tunes that goes well with the film. His selection of instruments for the song ‘Mudi Mudi’ is a treat to listen, which propels the listener to tap his feet while the song is being played on the screen.

Cameraman P.C. Sreeram gets 10 on 10 for his work. Ditto for the makeup.

Performance wise, Arundhati Nag has done a good job. May be we’ll see a lot more of her in the forthcoming films.

Paresh Rawal has a small role but is given some good dialogues, which does makes sense. Listen to him carefully whenever he is on the screen.

Vidya Balan is in complete form & has delivered a well balanced performance. Watch her scream, “Just by lending me your sperm doesn’t means he is your son”. She deserves to be nominated for the best actress category.

What Abhishek Bachchan has done in the film, will undoubtedly make Senior Bachchan proud of him. His well controlled dialogue delivery & immaculate body language makes his performance top class.

Is there any word that can explain the performance of the phenomenon called Mr. Amitabh Bachchan? Imagine a 67 years old man playing the role of a 12 years old boy & acts so well, which actually makes you forget that you are watching the great Mr. Bachchan on the screen as you are so immersed in the character of AURO, played by him. All I can say is, AURO = Amitabh Undoubtedly Rules Overall.

You leave the theater with moist eyes completely awestruck with Mr. Bachchan’s performance, thinking what should he be nominated for, Best Male Actor or Best Child Artist?

PAA’ is a master piece from the legendary Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, which is strongly recommended. Whether you are a PAAor going with your PAA, you'll find this PAA at par with any classic that you can think of.
