Cinemax opened up in Hyderabad recently. We wanted to see 'Chandni Chowk to China' (the movie may have skewed my opinion a teeny weeny bit! :)) and when I checked online Cinemax was the only theater with tickets available for that weekend.
I decided to book online as that's the only way we watch movies nowadays. The site would not work in Firefox. I tried IE. It worked till the payment and then hung!
I gave up after a couple of tries and told a friend who was in the vicinity to try at the theater. He called and said the tickets are not available though they were showing available online. Anyways he booked it for that Sunday.
We reached the theater ahead of time and after some difficulty in the small parking, went in after a cursory security check even though all the other malls and theaters were checking people twice and thrice. We seem to have got so used to being checked everywhere that this left us feeling a bit exposed! :)
The screens were all in a line with not much space outside for snacking and stuff. The theatre itself was ok - not better than PVR or Prasads or Big Cinemas. We found the rows to be a bit cramped and a tall person may knock his knees on the row in front. The screening started.
The first message we see is 'The management is not responsible for ticket refund if power goes after one hour of the start of the movie!'. That was an immediate put off! They don't have a generator? What gives? The movie progressed. Nothing much about the movie - enough has been said everywhere. Interval comes. The next funny message flashes - 'Patrons are requested not to leave the theatre at half time as it is a security issue'. We were left wondering if it was on behalf of the movie (CCTC)!
We go out and get another shock - the popcorn and coffee is a good Rs 10 more than other theaters. Doesn't taste great too. :( We finish the movie and leave the theater with the thought that the only reason we would come back is that its near home and convenient. Otherwise we hadn't found anything else to make us feel good!
My advise is to only patronize Cinemax if you dont get tickets anywhere else!
