After going through rave reviews about Dr.Tapasvi, my daughter had consulted him for her damaged knee. After lot of waiting, we got to meet the Doctor and his team. After seeing the Reports, MRIs and after discussions, it was diagnosed that her condition was of'chondromalacia' and treatment recommended was for injection with synvisc and PRP.
The Doctor had assured that it would be a very painless process and she would be able to walk home after 2 hours and that she would be able to attend office the very next day.So she went through the process and the experience was totally different - she had to undergo very severe pain through the entire process of injection and for the next 10 days she was hobbling in pain and could not attend to her office as'assured'.
Due to further worsening of this situation, she had again consulted and was told to again take a MRI as he himself felt that the symtoms was not related to'chondromalacia' and he now'diagnosed' that it could be RSD - reasons for this conclusion was not made clear(though the symtoms also did not indicate this). This was referred to other experienced Orthopeds who were mystified by the conclusions drawn and after going through the reports/medical history were totally in disagreement with Dr.Tapasvi's treatment and diagnoses. Their comments:
"Symptoms tie in with a diagnosis of patellofemoral irritability secondary to instability in that compartment due to possible weakness in components of Quadriceps muscle.
The medial meniscal tear is fairly irrelevant and I wouldnt treat it.
The injection with synvisc and PRP is so random that I feel its almost sham. especially when the MRI clearly show no intra-articular derangement.
Part of the symptoms maybe aggravated by stress but do feel that theres a muscular imbalance.
Needs to probably see a trained Orthopaedic physio, work on gait training, proprioception, Swimming will be a good exercise to take up. stationary bike exercises"
So on the whole it was a very miserable and'costly experience for us and we seem to be back to square one and are trying to explore alternative solutions.
We seem to be to be at a loss as to how to evaluate the right doctors and feel cheated through such experience - we seem to become guinea-pigs for knowledge enrichment of Doctors at our inconvenience and our costs!
