OUTLOOK , Now the name gives the picture of a magazine which is full of high quality journalistic content and some thought provoking write ups . Okay that was what I thought and I brought the magazine. It also had very high circulation figures of 200000+ so I thought that this magazine must be pretty good and brought it. Okay so far so good. Now I open the first page, nothing out of the normal, the same old contents column and the cover story thing. As I go further I really doubted that the people of India have gone insane and wondered how this book even reached such figures. Then I found that the reason for this was that they give really neat gifts with subscriptions and later then keep the book where it belongs and get some money in process. U guessed it right, RADDIWALA. That explains the high figures.
Seriously, this magazine is not even worth the 10 bucks u pay for it. This book is low on journalistic content. Just read the column by Prem Shankar Jha and the last thing called Diary is even worse. Then have these reviews of books and movies and music in the last few pages and believe me , we at mouthshut write much better reviews than them. Then, Let me tell u something about what kind of standards (???) they keep.
1) Anti- BJP and Pro-Pakistan - U have to read to try to understand what I am saying. Okay, media’s role is to write about the government but these guys only write the negative aspects about the BJP and always take Pakistan’s side in various issues
2) The Betting Scandal - I’ll never figure it out! One issue they are supporting Manoj Prabhakar and the next issue they are blasting him. The same case with Azhar and Kapil Dev.
3) Arundhati Roy - These guys seem to be obsessed with Arundhati Roy. Every few weeks there is this article by her, which really suck and hold no meaning. Why cant she shut up and write novels like every booker winner does?
These are just some of the things about the magazine. U have to read it to find out but I would definitely ask u to read this book. Rather go and read a Time or the Week magazine, which has a new column by wife of Mr. Narayan Murthy, which is fantastic.
